When Flyers' head coach Peter Laviolette chose to stick with "back-up" goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky by giving him the start on Thursday against the New York Islanders, a goalie controversy seemed immanent.

However, if you look at the decision more in depth, it makes much more sense. Bobrovsky has very good numbers against the Islanders and was coming off an impressive showing in the Flyers' 2-1 win over Carolina on Tuesday.

Laviolette chose to go with the hot hand on Thursday, but will go with the enigma that is Ilya Bryzgalov tonight in Nashville.

Bryzgalov last played in the home and home series against the Ottawa Senators on back-to-back days. In the first game against the Senators, Bryzgalov was stellar between the pipes. He stopped 35 of 37 shots (.946 save percentage) en route to a 3-2 Flyers victory in overtime. He was less than impressive the next night when he allowed 5 goals on 37 shots, although two of the goals were put in by his own defensemen.

The trip to Nashville means a return to the origin of the careers of both Scott Hartnell and Kimmo Timonen. Hartnell and Timonen were team mates from 2000 until 2007, when both signed with the Flyers in the off-season.

Timonen is the best Flyers' defenseman, and was just selected as an all-star for the fourth time in his career (2 times as a Predator, 2 times as a Flyer).

Hartnell was one of the biggest snubs of the all-star game this season, as the 29-year-old was not selected despite racking up 38 points (19 goals, 19 assists) in 42 games this season.
