The Flyers and Sabres battled tonight for the first time since their first-round playoff war last season, which lasted the full seven games. The Flyers won this battle 3-2 to move to 7-4-2 on the season. Sean Couturier opened up the scoring early in this contest, throwing a rebound off of an Andreas Lilja shot into the net just 1:43 seconds into the first period. The league’s highest scoring offense tallied again a mere 13 seconds later as James van Riemsdyk fired a wrist shot above Ryan Miller’s glove on a 2-on-1. Video of the goals can be seen after the jump. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time Miller allowed two goals in the first two minutes in his career. He was visibly frustrated, and the defense was nowhere to be found early in the game for his team. Miller would only get more frustrated, however, as Scott Hartnell scored his fifth goal of the season on a rocket slap shot from the left circle to make it 3-0 Flyers.
