Dave Lozo at NHL.com notes that Ryan Callahan is more than just a hard-working leader, who does whatever it takes to win, he's actually got offensive talent...

But Callahan is putting a twist on that story this season, showing he's capable of being a 30-goal scorer. He has 23 goals in 55 games, including six in his last four games.

Here's John Tortorella on Callahan's goal scoring prowess...

"I think sometimes people think he's just a shot-blocker and a guy who can bang along the boards and forecheck and finish checks," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "I think Cally has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder that everybody thinks he's a one-dimensional guy. He isn't. As he keeps growing as a player, he's certainly showing that."

Callahan discusses his offensive ability...

"I've always felt like I can contribute offensively, right through all the leagues. I think this year it's just a matter of building confidence on last year. Last year I got hurt for most of the season and put up pretty good numbers. It was a matter of coming in with that confidence and continuing to try and grow. I think this year is another step towards that."

...got to admit I never envisioned Callahan becoming a 30-35 goal guy. Figured 20-25 tops. But through hard work and determination Callahan has transformed himself into one of the most complete players in the league. What's even more impressive is that he's done it while taking on the additional responsibility of becoming a captain this season.

...his transition to head of the locker room has been flawless. Not that Callahan needs it, but I'm sure it helps to have the greatest captain in team sports working for the Rangers. Can't imagine he hasn't had a few conversations with Messier this season.

...and if anyone needed more proof that Callahan is the perfect captain for the Rangers, just take a look at the tape from last night. He sets the tone for the game with his power play goal in the first, then a few minutes later gets in Marchant's face for messing with Richards. Effin love him.
