The Buffalo Sabres' last meeting with the Montreal Canadiens left coach Lindy Ruff feeling "embarrassed." His team's play - and position in the Eastern Conference playoff race - since then has likely changed that dramatically. The Sabres look to continue their impressive turnaround and close the gap on a playoff position Monday night when they face the Canadiens at First Niagara Center. Buffalo (32-29-8) fell 4-3 in a shootout to Montreal (27-32-10) at home Feb. 17, and Ruff said he felt "disappointed" and "embarrassed" after his team dropped into a tie for last place in the East. A lot has changed since. The Sabres are 8-2-1 since that visit from the Canadiens, climbing into a tie for ninth with Winnipeg, four points behind Washington for the eighth and final playoff spot. Buffalo's surge continued with Saturday's 4-3 shootout win at Ottawa, as Tyler Ennis netted the decisive goal in the tiebreaker after scoring in regulation. The...

Hodgson hopes practice makes perfect

Eleven days after he joined the Buffalo Sabres , Cody Hodgson finally got the chance to practice with the team Friday. The 22-year-old center has played six games since being acquired from Vancouver at the trade deadline but his travel combined with the team's truncated schedule has meant that his only workouts have been light skates the morning of the game. Friday's 45...

Sabres F Ellis out indefinitely

Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Ellis is out indefinitely because of a knee injury. Coach Lindy Ruff said Ellis will miss an extended amount of time after he hurt his knee in a win over Ottawa on Saturday. Ellis, a fourth-liner, has three goals and five assists on the season. The Sabres are also without defenseman Andrel Sekera because of pneumonia. He has missed three games already.

Sabres overcome late Habs goal

Given how poorly Buffalo was playing two months ago, defenseman Tyler Myers is certain it would have let this one slip away. It's a much different story in March, now that the surging Sabres have climbed back in the hunt for a playoff spot. Buffalo allowed the tying goal with 5 seconds left in regulation, but Myers scored 2:01 into overtime to secure a 3-2 win over the Montreal...

Sabres subpar, but still top Senators

Nathan Gerbe and Marcus Foligno also scored for the Sabres (32-29-8), and Ryan Miller stopped 33 shots...

Rene Bourque a bust in Montreal?

After struggling this season for the Calgary Flames, Rene Bourque was traded in January to the Montreal Canadiens. Coming the other way was Mike Cammalleri, who had equally lost his scoring touch. It was hoped that a change of scenery would benefit both players. So far, Bourque has gained no such benefit and has been a big disappointment in Montreal. Cammalleri has not exactly broken...

Habs tie it late, lose 3-2 to Sabres

Good thing David Desharnais played Monday night, because if it wasn’t for him, the Habs wouldn’t have been in this game. The usual storyline: Habs take lead, Habs blow lead, except in this one, they tied it with 3 seconds left, and then lost in overtime. I won’t even get into the game: what’s with the celebrating? One thing I always appreciated about Saku Koivu was his class...
