The Canes' Chad LaRose missed practice today with flu-like symptoms, coach Kirk Muller said, but should be ready for Thursday's road game against the Boston Bruins. Muller also said defenseman Jaroslav Spacek, who has missed the last six games, could return to the lineup. If Spacek can play Thursday, that would make Derek Joslin a healthy scratch. The Canes will be seeking to complete the first season sweep of the Bruins in Carolina's franchise history. Carolina beat Boston twice in October, early in the season, then topped the Bruins 4-2 at the RBC Center on Jan. 14. "I think the big part of our focus is we've got to play our game," Muller said. "Boston is a team that can play physical and they play hard in their barn. We can't get caught up in that kind of stuff. "We've just got to go out and play hard and play strong and play physical, but play clean. If we have opportunities to use our power play, we'd have to hurt them on the powe...

Who Has the Bruins Franchise Record for Most Assists in a Single Season By a Forward?

While Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci jockey to be top playmaker of the 2011-12 Bruins, one has to think back to some of the all-time best Bruins assist artists. Sure, Bobby Orr is the first to come to mind, and rightfully so. Orr's 102 assists during the 1970-71 season are a franchise record. In fact, only Hall of Fame forwards Wayne Gretzky (who did it 11 times) and Mario...

Game 53 Preview: Hurricanes at Bruins

Carolina Hurricanes (18-25-9) vs. Boston Bruins (32-14-2) TD Garden, 7 p.m.TV: NHL-Network (US) If you told me at the beginning of the year that the only teams that the Hurricanes would be on the verge of sweeping the Boston Bruins then I wouldn't have believed you. Well, they are 3-0 against the Bruins this year and with a win tonight, they can make me look like a fool. Re...

BOSTON – The Bruins return to work after the All-Star break and they won’t get to ease back into action as they take on their closest pursuer in the Northeast Division. The Bruins will be without forward Nathan Horton and defenseman Andrew...

Andrew Ference Returns from Suspension, Adam McQuaid Expected to Play Despite Lower-Body Injury

BOSTON – The Bruins will get one key defenseman back Thursday against Carolina, and are optimistic they won’t be without another important blueliner. Carolina Completes Season Sweep, But Bruins See Issues More in Their Own Game Than With Hurricanes

BOSTON -- The Bruins have lost just 15 of their first 49 games in regulation this season and sit atop the Northeast Division, second in the Eastern Conference. Carolina sits dead last in the East, with just 19 wins in 53 games. Yet after Thursday's 3-0 blanking of the Bruins, the Hurricanes finish the season series a perfect 4-0-0 against the reigning Cup champs. "It'...

Ty Anderson: Psych Ward: 'Canes sweep season series against Boston

Heading into this year, history told us that Carolina goaltender Cam Ward isn't very good against Boston. In fact, he kinda sucked when it came to playing the Bruins. Coming into the season with a .909 save-percentage against the Bruins in 20 career contests, a season sweep of the Black-and-Gold by way of tonight's 47-save shutout has murdered the notion that the 27-year...
