The Arizona Coyotes lost another key piece of their 2012 Western Conference Final team when free-agent wing Radim Vrbata signed a two-year $10 million deal with the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday evening with $ 4 million in base salary each season and $1 million in bonuses each year. Vrbata made one last ditch effort to remain with the Coyotes, where has enjoyed his greatest success as a pro. But the Coyotes couldn't come close to matching the money he was getting elsewhere, or give him enough assurances in other parts of the deal to keep him. Vrbata had other offers on the table, including a couple from contenders and a pair from teams that didn't feel like a good fit, but the two-year deal opens up the possibility for Vrbata, who just turned 33 in June, to sign another deal with plenty left in the tank. Vrbaa and his wife, Petra, had their second son (Oliver) on April 30, so there was plenty of thought given to remaining in Phoenix. They weren't keen on the idea of uprooting the family at such a delicate time. The couple loves living in the Valley, and Vrbata knows full well that his best years as a pro have all come wearing a Coyotes sweater. In 792 NHL games, Vrbata has 215 goals and 464 points. In his last five seasons in Phoenix -- including the abbreviated 2012-13 season -- he had 110 goals and 232 points in 352 games. Check back later for more. Follow Craig Morgan on Twitter
