There is speculation in and around the Vancouver Canucks that the franchise leader in goals scored, could be on his way to town, to join the Canucks organization, in a management capacity. The question that arises is what position within the front office would Markus Naslund be brought in to fill.If reports out of both Pittsburgh and Boston, are to be believed, and the Aquilini brother, who own the club, stepped in and blocked the trades of Ryan Kesler and Alex Edler, at the trade deadline, then ther have to be questions as to whether current general manager Mike Gillis continues to have any control of the roster, and if not, could Naslund be brought in as a replacement for Gillis. With Naslund being a former client of Gillis, when he was a player agent, it would seem unlikely that Naslund would consider coming in as a replacement for his former agent, but then again Naslund has just resigned as the general manager of MoDo of the Swedish Elite League, so the possibility is not as fa...

Canucks Defenseman Kevin Bieksa Makes Incredible Kick Save To Deny A Goal

The Vancouver Canucks seem determined to trade anyone who shows any potential in between the pipes lately, so Kevin Bieksa should probably start packing his bags after what he pulled off yesterday. The Vancouver defenseman made an awesome kick save right in front of the goal line to stop a puck in mid-air and prevent a sure goal for the Panthers halfway through the third period during...

Beginnings: Derick Brassard

The folks at MSG were kind enough to share a quick note about tonight’s new episode of Beginnings, featuring Derick Brassard. The episode airs tonight after the Rangers/Senators game finishes up. On tonight’s all-new episode of “Beginnings” (11pm MSG), immediately following coverage of the Rangers-Senators game, forward Derick Brassard takes MSG’s cameras to Quebec, Canada...

At what point is there too much turnover?

This is from November, 2010. Quick, find the current Ranger. Hint: Trick question. When  Suit wrote about the Rangers and their inability to find consistency, it struck a chord with me. I realized that despite management’s best efforts, this is a Rangers club that has had significant turnover year in and year out for quite some time. We know about the constant turnover from the...

New York Rangers Offense Still Struggles Even With Nash And St. Louis

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, If the Rangers had lost a 1-0 game like this two years ago in which they owned a huge territorial edge and blasted 41 shots on net as they did Sunday at the Garden against the Sharks, the cry would have gone out for the front office to go get a big-time goal-scorer who would produce when it really mattered. Someone, maybe, like Rick...

Who can carry the New York Rangers to the playoffs?

With 14 games left in the 2013-14 season, the New York Rangers find themselves in a familiar position: inside the playoff picture, but precariously so. Outside of their run to the top of the East in 2011-12, this has been the pattern for the Rangers in basically every season since the 2004-05 lockout. Through March and April the team is relevant, but in this fleeting kind of way...

The Hockey Maven (sort of) ate his hat because the Rangers traded Ryan Callahan

Stan Fischler said he'd eat his hat with maple syrup if the Rangers traded Ryan Callahan. They did and...the Maven stayed true to his word. Sorta. In 5 games with TB, Callahan has 3 points in 20 minutes. In 6 games and...19 minutes with the NYR, Martin St. Louis has 2 points, no goals.**Follow us on Twitter, Subscribe by Email, View via Our Mobile Site, or Return Home

Video- Can You Assume The Puck Crossed The Line In The Rangers/Sharks Game?

via the NHL Situation Blog, At 16:45 of the second period in the San Jose Sharks/New York Rangers game, the Situation Room initiated video review to further examine Carl Hagelin's wraparound attempt on the San Jose net. No camera angles provided to the Situation Room provided a clear image of the puck completely across the goal line. As a result, video review was inconclusive...

Rangers drop close contest to the Sharks

The Rangers were home for a matinee matchup yesterday against the Sharks, who came in battling the Ducks for top position in the Pacific Division. The Rangers were fresh off a win against Winnipeg which featured Carl Hagelin’s first career hat trick and Henrik Lundqvist’s 301st career win, which tied him with Mike Richter for the lead on the Rangers’ all time list. The first...

Vote for Avery Part II

One of the biggest regrets I’ve had in my six plus years of administering this blog was not getting Sean Avery voted into the All Star Game back in 2011. While it was an amazing accomplishment that the “Vote for Avery” campaign was able to get him the 15th most votes for a forward ahead of players such as Henrik Zetterberg, Martin St. Louis, Rick Nash, the Sedin twins, Joe...

Game 70: Crunch time, start getting points please

Photo: Star Ledger Just when you think the Rangers have righted the ship, a goalie like Antii Niemi steals one for the opposition, and the Rangers are again left without points. That comfy second-place cushion is gone, and the Rangers are barely in a playoff spot. The Flyers and Blue Jackets have two games in hand, and the Caps are breathing down the Blueshirts’ necks. The Rangers...

Game 69: Redemption against San Jose

Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images The last time the Rangers faced San Jose, they lost 9-2 in an absolute embarrassment of a game. This time around, it will be different (hopefully). The Sharks are no longer the white-hot team that steamrolled the opposition in October. After their absurd start, they have fallen off a bit. They are still playing great hockey, but they aren’t blowing...

Hockey World Talk

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, - Is it possible Hockey Hall of Famer Glen Sather, 70, may be thinking of retiring as a general manager if the New York Rangers make the playoffs this season? I’ve heard that. There was no response to a recent inquiry by me from Sather. If true, the Oilers can get his banner raised next season. The Oilers have put off a ceremony because...
