Ed Snider, chairman of the Philadelphia Flyers echoed some familiar sentiments on Tuesday when discussing the Flyers 2011-2012 season. With most Flyers fans left with nothing to talk about except lamenting the Devils-Kings Stanley Cup Finals that are set to start today, Snider looked to the future. Snider said that he was pleased with the team’s new direction and that he felt more hopeful for the team’s future after this year’s elimination by the Devils, than he did last year. Snider said, as did GM Paul Holmgren, that he wished Jeff Carter and Mike Richards well in their bid to win a Stanley Cup with LA. He also said that he was more than pleased with the trades and the he was thrilled with the Flyers return on those trades. Snider also said that he expects Sean Couturier, acquired with a draft pick from the Jeff Carter trade to Columbus, to be a future star in the NHL, maybe “just below Giroux.” When Mr. Snider was asked about the signing of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, he said that the goalie’s first season was a “mixed bag,” and that he hoped the Flyers would see more of the goalie they saw in March in the future. He noted that he thought the fans put a lot of pressure on Bryzgalov, and that the Russian wasn’t quite ready to deal with the spotlight and scrutiny that always seems to follow a Philadelphia Flyers goalie. In continuing to discuss Bryzgalov, Snider blamed the organization’s shortcomings in acquiring solid goaltending as the reason there was so much focus on Bryzgalov. The chairman also said that he believed if the Flyers hadn’t lost Chris Pronger and Andrej Meszaros, that the team would have won it all this season. Ed Snider is known for being very honest and trying harder than probably any other organization in Philly sports to win championships. Snider’s candor last year, during which he said he would never go through another season with a goalie carousel, led directly to the team signing Ilya Bryzgalov, after trading away their Captain and leading goal scorer.Similar Posts: Flyers and Bryzgalov Have No Choice But To Make it Work Bryz Not To Blame for Flyers Poor Play in Game 2 All Eyes on Bryzgalov for Game 5 Flyers Have Plenty to Be Proud Of and To Look Forward To Bryzgalov Returns for Flyers
