Chris Chelios is shown here during his time spent with the Detroit Red Wings. He was inducted to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. The Chicago native will go down as a fan favorite in both cities, playing with the Blackhawks from 1990 to 1999, until he was dealt to the Red Wings before trade deadline that year which was March 23. As a Red Wings fan growing up in Chicago then, I received a phone call from my friend in the late hours. Chelios had just been traded. In terms of longevity of players’ traded that day, Chelios had the biggest impact on his team. The Blackhawks took defenceman Anders Eriksson, and a pair of first-round draft picks later to be Steve McCarthy (1999) and Adam Munro (2001) in return.
