Stars defenseman Kevin Connauton sat in the locker room after Wednesday’s practice and talked about the couple times he almost got into games this season. “Last game we all dressed for warm-ups and I really wasn’t sure. I was texting my family and friends saying ‘Hey it might be tonight. Keep an eye on the game’” he said. “Then in Colorado (Trevor) Daley had kind of tweaked his shoulder and they had me warm up just in case. Those were both moments that I thought maybe it was coming but it didn’t end up happening. I don’t know how to describe it. It almost feels like it is never going to come. “ But tonight it will come. The 23-year-old Connauton will make his NHL debut when the Dallas Stars take on the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center. He’ll play with Sergei Gonchar on the Stars’ third defensive pair. “I’m extremely excited a little bit nervous” Connauton said after Thursday morning’s skate at American Airlines Center. “I never thought this moment was going to co

Stars’ defenseman Goligoski practices as forward on fourth line

Could defenseman Alex Goligoski be moving to forward for the Stars? Photo: Ronald Martinez, GI To say the least, Dallas Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski has enjoyed a less-than-stellar start to the 2013-14 NHL season. Through eight games, he has 0 points and has a hideous -10 rating- dead last in the NHL. Not exactly what the Stars want from their highest paid defenseman (Goligoski...

FRISCO, Texas -- For all the changes the Dallas Stars made this offseason, whether it would be hiring a new general manager, head coach, acquiring a number of new players or unveiling a new logo and color scheme, one area where there weren't many changes was at the blue line. Stars too much for Flames

Alex Chiasson didn't see his tiebreaking goal go in Thursday night. Neither did Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff. More important, the referees didn't see the puck hit the net. At the other end of the ice, though, Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen saw the goal scored, and stopped the puck when it came to him. On review, the goal was ruled good. That started Dallas toward three goals...

Stars too much for Flames 5-1

Alex Chiasson and Jamie Benn each scored two goals to lead the Dallas Stars to a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday. The game was tied 1-1 when rookie Chiasson took a pass from Ray Whitney and shot the puck into the upper right corner over Calgary goalie Karri Ramo at 11:11 of the second period. At first, the shot was ruled no goal. But after a review showed that the...

Dallas radio jocks lose minds while in booth during Stars-Flames brawl (video)

During Thursday night’s Dallas Stars-Calgary Flames game, an epically brutal display of on-ice fisticuffs ensued between Stars winger Lane MacDermid and Flames defenseman Chris Breen. When the fight broke out, Dallas drivetime radio personalities Mike Rhyner and Corby Davidson from KTCK-AM 1310 The Ticket happened to be in the broadcast booth. And the two allowed […]The post...

Stars win 5-1 over the Flames

Kari Lehtonen is like a can of “Flex Seal.” Y’know Flex Seal. Flex Seal the miracle in a can that will glue your gutter fix your flowerpots and repair your roof. Flex Seal. Truth be told Lehtonen is probably closer to 132 cans of Flex Seal for his leaky team. And when they dragged their boat off the trailer with a screen door on the hull Thursday night against Calgary the...

Flames-Stars Preview

Kari Lehtonen's injury has had a big effect on the Dallas Stars, whose goaltending has been sorely lacking in his absence. They expect him back Thursday night when they host the Calgary Flames, who have several players that have had success against Dallas recently. The Stars (3-5-0) have been without Lehtonen since a 4-1 win at Winnipeg on Oct. 11, which he left due to a lower...

Ruff juggles D-pairs, puts Nichushkin on top line for the day

Lots to read into practice today so a fun day for speculation. First the news. Ryan Garbutt will travel to New York for a 10 a.m. CDT meeting Wednesday with the Department of Player Safety to discuss his hit on Dustin Penner in Sunday’s 6-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The fact Garbutt is being called in person almost guarantees a suspension. Garbutt will travel with Stars GM...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Ruff Takes Struggling Goligoski Off Blueline

After the Dallas Stars suffered their fourth loss in five games, head coach Lindy Ruff suggested to the media that there could be some lineup changes coming. He was particularly unhappy with some of what he's seen on the blueline. Today at practice, per Stars beat writer Mike Heika and official website writer Andrew Stepneski, Ruff did indeed shake up his defensive pairings...

Top defensemen tank for Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars struggled early this season for a host of reasons, including the tremendously disappointing play of their top defensemen.Alex Goligoski has no points in 10 games and a minus-10. His early season partner Sergei Gonchar has just one assist in nine game and a minus-4 rating. So Stars coach Lindy Ruff broke them, probably for good.“We’ve talked about having that pair...
