Could Lee Stempniak be returning to the St. Louis Blues after being traded back in November of 2008 for Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo? Hockeybuzz.com reports today that the Blues and Sabres are both interested in the right winger after an impressive season splitting time between Toronto and Phoenix. Stempniak had a solid bounce back season recording 48 points (28 goals, 20 assists) and broke even on the plus-minus. Would this be a good signing for the Blues? I think so, but only if the price is right. I would prefer a winger like Stempniak over guys like Matt D’Agostini and Brad Winchester, who were anything but productive last year. After the trade to Phoenix Stempniak played in 18 games and had 18 points (14 goals, 4 assists) and a plus 10. However, in the seven games versus Detroit, Stempniak only recorded 2 assists and had a minus 4 on the ice. So the question remains, what Stempniak would you be signing, the Stempniak who scored 28 goals and recorded 20 assists in the regular season or the Stempniak who flopped in the playoffs? I think signing Stempniak would be a good move on the part of the Blues and I hope they do if he is relatively cheap and he fits into their plans for the near future. Hockeybuzz.com reports he could sign as early as this weekend and we here at BleedinBlues.com will keep you updated.
