Found April 06, 2013 on On the Duck Pond:
You cannot win them all, and even though the Ducks won two out of three meetings with the Dallas Stars, the final meeting was not as successful as the first two.   A 3-1 loss to the Stars had errors, whoops, and some missing personnel who might have helped out. The most noticeable absence was the captain, Ryan Getzlaf, who suffered a right leg injury on Wednesday.  Although Getzlaf came back to the ice after tweaking his leg and scored a goal, he has not been seen since. "It’s day-to-day with him," said coach Bruce Boudreau. "We’re going to see how he is at practice. I know no one wants to play as much as Ryan, but I think at this stage we want to be 100%. We don’t want anything to linger on. As big a game as we think this one is on Sunday, we want to make sure Ryan is ready before he goes in." The Ducks were missing more than their captain.  Jonas Hiller was ill and missed the morning skate.  It was bad enough for the Ducks to call up Igor Bobkov fro...

Bill Meltzer: Stars Gameday: 4/5/13 @ Ducks

MINI-PREVIEW 8:30 AM CDT It is not unusual at the minor league level for a team to a play the same opponent in three straight games. It is, however, an unusual quirk of the NHL's 2013 post-lockout schedule that the Dallas Stars (16-17-3) are playing the Anaheim Ducks (25-7-5) tonight for the third successive game. Anaheim has won the first two games by a combined 9-2 score...

Stars beat Ducks ... finally

Alex Chiasson scored his first NHL goal, Lane MacDermid netted his second in two games since being promoted from the minors, and Eric Nystrom added a short-handed goal for the Dallas Stars on Friday night in a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. It was the third consecutive game between the teams in five days, following 4-0 and 5-2 wins by the Pacific Division-leading Ducks (25...

Chiasson's 1st goal lifts Stars over Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Alex Chiasson scored his first NHL goal, Lane MacDermid netted his second in two games since being promoted from the minors, and Eric Nystrom had a short-handed goal for the Dallas Stars in a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves to help end Dallas' three-game skid. The Stars, whose four-year playoff drought is...

Oilers-Ducks Preview

After earning a pivotal victory, the Anaheim Ducks will try to move closer to a Pacific Division title by continuing their recent dominance over the Edmonton Oilers. With the statuses of captain Ryan Getzlaf and goaltender Jonas Hiller unclear, the Ducks will try to win the first of three meetings with the Oilers over the next two weeks Monday night. Despite being short-handed...

Ducks Down Dallas; Acquire Lombardi

In part two of a three part mini-series, the Ducks had another decisive victory over the Dallas Stars.  This time it was a 5-2 victory at home, but even though it was the same uniforms, there were a lot of different players on the Dallas side of things.   The trade deadline has a way of doing that. Since Anaheim had played Dallas on Monday, the Stars had traded away five forwards...

Stars stop streaking Sharks

Despite dealing away many of their star players before last week's NHL trade deadline, the Dallas Stars are delivering a clear message to the rest of the Western Conference that they aren't packing it in just yet. Jamie Benn scored the lone goal in the shootout and Kari Lehtonen stopped all three attempts as the Stars snapped the San Jose Sharks' seven-game winning streak...

Stars rally to beat Sharks in shootout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Jamie Benn scored the lone goal in the shootout and Kari Lehtonen stopped all three attempts as the Dallas Stars snapped the San Jose Sharks' seven-game winning streak with a 5-4, come-from-behind victory on Sunday. Alex Chiasson started the rally from a two-goal deficit in the third period when he scored his second goal of the game, and Loui Erickson...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Stars Claim Final Meeting with Ducks

The Dallas Stars concluded their season series with the Anaheim Ducks with a 2-2-1 mark and claimed the final game of a three-game set by virtue of a 3-1 road victory last night. The win came on the heels of 4-0 and 5-2 blowout losses to the Ducks earlier in the week. The game was something of a typical Stars win. Dallas was out-chanced early in the game but Kari Lehtonen (27...

Kings-Ducks Preview

With an eight-point cushion and 10 games left, it seems like the Anaheim Ducks have a safe lead atop the Pacific Division. Coach Bruce Boudreau isn't so sure. The Ducks look to take another step toward their first division title in six years with Sunday's visit from the Los Angeles Kings, who would love to continue their recent hot stretch by pulling closer to their crosstown...

Cam Gore: Stars halt Sharks win streak

The Dallas Stars gutted out a 5-4 shootout win at the Shark Tank Sunday afternoon and by doing so kept San Jose from winning their 8th straight game. The Sharks smoldered away two goal leads twice in this game. They led 2-0 and 4-2 and in both situations the Stars were able to comeback. The toughest thing to swallow is the blown two goal lead in the third period. The Sharks are...

Steve Palumbo: Getzlaf, Pacific Division Title and Flash Mobs....#Winning

I have been on vacation and have had little opportunity to blog recently, but I did want to drop a note today before the Ducks take on the trade riddled Dallas Stars tonight at the Honda Center. First off I think the Ducks did a great job with their social media night on Wednesday. It was a unique way for fans to enjoy a game and it always helps when the home team wins in relatively...
