The Detroit Red Wings won an impressive 22nd consecutive home game by edging the Nashville Predators 2-1.

Rinne watches as Datsyuk scores the game-winning goal Friday night in Detroit

It looked like overtime was inevitable when Pavel Datsyuk skated around all-star defenseman Ryan Suter and then beat goaltender Pekka Rinne to give Detroit the lead with only 5 seconds left in regulation. Henrik Zetterberg, who was questionable to play the game, set up Datsyuk for the game-winning goal. It was his 16th goal of the season.

Johan Franzen opened scoring with 7:16 left in the opening frame. Datsyuk fell along the boards but was able to pass the puck to Todd Bertuzzi who got it to Franzen in the slot. The goal was the 23rd tally of the season for Franzen.

Nick Spaling tied the game for Nashville late in the second period when Jordin Tootoo caused a turnover by Red Wings defenseman Jakub Kindl. It was his ninth goal of the season. Nashville is now 14-1-1 when Spaling has scored in a game.

Joey McDonald was in goal for Detroit. It was his first win against Nashville in four tries with a 1-3-0 record. He is now 4-0-0 at Joe Louis Arena this season. Rinne made 29 saves in the losing cause for Nashville.

Patric Hornqvist was out of the lineup for the second straight game with an upper-body injury.

The Predators will know have to regroup and try to get back on track Sunday in Dallas, a team Nashville has lost twice to this season by 6-3 and 4-1 scores. After going 11-2-0 in January, the Predators are a mere 2-3-2 in the month of February with a tough week ahead for them in Smashville with Vancouver, St. Louis and San Jose all in town next week.
