On Saturday night, the Detroit Red Wings extended their professional sports leading playoff streak of 22 consecutive appearances with a decisive 3-0 shutout of the Dallas Stars.
With that victory, Detroit finished the season on a four-game winning streak and clinched the seventh playoff position. The Red Wings were 5-2-3 in their final ten games. Detroit will visit the second-seeded Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. The Ducks lost their final regular season game and finished their final ten games 5-4-1.
The team statistics suggest a close match up. During the regular season, Detroit scored 124 goals while allowing 115, which was good enough to tie for second lowest scoring Western Conference playoff team and the second lowest goals against. On the other hand, Anaheim scored 140 goals versus 118 goals against. The Ducks are the second highest scoring Western Conference playoff team and tied for third in goals against.

While the Detroit Red Wings were successfully completing their mad dash towards their 22nd consecutive playoff appearance, something became lost in the hoopla.
This will be Detroits last run for the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. The overly ornate trophy that is awarded to the Western Conference playoff champion and no other Western Conference team has won old Clarence more than the...
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock hasn't decided on any lineup changes for Thursday's Game 2 in Anaheim.
Both veterans Mikael Samuelsson and Todd Bertuzzi are healthy and ready to go, but that doesn't mean they'll play.
"I think its great to have veterans that are ready to go," Babcock said to reporters in Anaheim Wednesday. "Ive been around the game a...

Brendan Smith has no Stanley Cup playoff experience. The same goes for defensive partners Jakub Kindl andDanny DeKeyser.
Though their lack of postseason participation certainly sends a red flag to some, their inexperience isn’t much of a concern for the Red Wings on the eve of Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals series...
The Detroit Red Wings needed a late finishing kick but not only made the playoffs for the 22nd straight season, they catapulted into seventh in the Western Conference.
It's only fitting that in their last season in the West that the Wings would have to head to the west coast to play the second-seeded Anaheim Ducks in the first round.
The Wings and Ducks faced each other three...

For five Detroit Red Wings, Tuesday was a night they won’t forget.
Defencemen Danny DeKeyser, Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl, as well as forwards Joakim Andersson and Damien Brunner, made their Stanley Cup debuts at the Honda Center in Game 1 of the Wings’ Western Conference quarter-final series against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Detroit Red Wings snuck into the playoffs for their 22nd consecutive postseason appearance, the fifth-longest streak in NHL history and a current North American professional sports record.
As the seventh seed in the Western Conference, their final season in the conference, they will play the Anaheim Ducks in the first round. The series starts Tuesday...

The Detroit Red Wings managed to fight late season odds stacked against them and make the playoffs. The last two weeks, there’s been no hotter team in hockey than Detroit, and the hunger and focus needed to fight into the...
Babcock seems a little more relaxed than usual today and I actually laughed at his remarks about the travel between Ottawa and Montreal near the end of this five minute video.

I'm an avid KK reader but rarely a writer.
I only really write anything when I'm fired up or angry about the Wings.
I am brutally honest and never sugarcoat anything. I can say that I watch every single Wings game without fail. I'm a stat and cap geek. I've been ganged up on and called names before for voicing my opinion by so called bigger fans on the...

With the pending announcement that the Stars have hired Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill to take over their head GM job from Joe Niewendyk, I decided yesterday to solicit input from longtime Detroit Red Wings scout Mark Howe about Nill.
Unfortunately, I was tied up at the Philadelphia Flyers' cleanout day media availability session with general manager Paul Holmgren...
This the the ninth time the Ducks have gone to the post season. It will be the sixth time they have to face the Detroit Red Wings.
No wonder these two teams and their fans hate each other. They are sick of seeing each other.
The first time they met in 1997, the Ducks put up a huge fight, taking the Red Wings to multiple overtimes. They still were swept by the...
Ahhh spring! The NHL playoffs are underway and it must be time for another Anaheim and Detroit match up. Octopus sales have gone up and security at any arena the Red Wings play at has gone down.
The Ducks took the first game against the Red Wings, 3-1, octopi be damned. They turned in a solid performance all the way around. And of course a goal from timeless, ageless...
