Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks Chicago Blackhawks 0 Detroit Red Wings 2FINAL     The Detroit Red Wings take a stranglehold on the Semi-final series with the Chicago Blackhawks, blanking them in Game 4 at home by a score of 2-0, and taking a 3-1 series lead. The Red Wings came into this game knowing that this would be a pivotal moment in the Semi-final series. Unfortunately they didn’t come out playing as such. A lot of time in the first period was spent in their own zone, trying to clear the puck and blocking shots. And when they did get their stick on the puck, they seemed to turn it over more than clearing it. They ended up with 8 turnovers in their own zone in the period; not good for a team facing the top club in the regular season. Through it all, though, the first period was scoreless for both sides, thanks to the spectacular play by Jimmy Howard. Shots in the period ended 14-10 in favor of Chicago. The second period w...

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock discusses Wings’ evolution on the Fan 590

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock spoke to The Fan 590's Hockeycentral at Noon crew prior to speaking to the media after today's Red Wings practice, and while Babcock repeated some of his talking points to the Wings' press corps, he didn't go into as much detail regarding the team's prospects and evolution of the team's rookies at his presser as he did during his...

Red Wings forward Joakim Andersson’s playing understatedly superb 2-way hockey

There's no doubt in my mind that the Red Wings' "x-factor" through their playoff run has been the performance of their third line, and while the Gustav Nyquist-Joakim Andersson-Damien Brunner line didn't factor in the scoring in the Red Wings' 2-0 win over Chicago last night, Nyquist deked and dazzled his way past and through Blackhawks defenders, registering...

Red Wings prospect news: on the Griffins’ playoff performers, Backman signing, Pulkkinen and Frk

The Red Wings' prospects still playing playoff hockey had big nights on Tuesday, with the Grand Rapids Griffins advancing to the AHL's Western Conference Finals and Halifax Mooseheads forward Martin Frk registering a hat trick at the Memorial Cup. Zetterberg getting best of Toews

DETROIT -- He's won a Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP and even an Olympic Gold medal. But Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has just one assist in four games of the Western Conference semifinals. And after Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 4 , his team is one game away from elimination and his frustration is boiling over...

Jimmy Howard’s Remarkable 2-on-1 Save Preserves Game 4 Shutout: Video

Jimmy Howard turned aside 28 shots Thursday night in a sensational effort to hand the Detroit Red Wings a 2-0 win and 3-1 series lead over the Chicago Blackhawks. No save was more important — or more impressive — than his sprawling denial of Dave Bolland’s shot during a Chicago 2-on-1. Detroit defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo got caught trying to make a play at center ice, freeing...

Chicago And Detroit Ready For Game 4

from Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times, Toews was indeed smiling, and most of the Hawks seemed to be in a rather good mood after an unusually focused morning skate at Joe Louis Arena. If the pressure's mounting, they weren't showing it. "Our group's been fine. We're definitely disappointed, we haven't been in this position all year. We've...

Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 4 quick take: stranglehold

Very briefly: Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard was nothing less than a superstar and the Detroit Red Wings played, well...Ugly hockey on Thursday night, mucking, grinding and just plain old out-working the Chicago Blackhawks en route to a 2-0 win and taking 3-1 series lead heading into Game 5 on Saturday. Howard earned the shutout on 28 saes. Jakub Kindl scored the only goal the...

The Detroit Red Wings head into Game 5 against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight (8 PM EDT, NBC/CBC/97.1 FM, and FSD will air a post-game show) holding a 3 games to 1 series lead, but they face a strange and difficult opponent for several reasons: First, as the Hawks repeatedly mentioned on Friday, they rallied from a 3-0 series deficit against the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, and forced...
