Canyon of Blueshirts:
As per Jim Cerny, there are rumors swirling around the Rangers (and Devils) beat writers that the Devils have put a claim on Sheldon Souray. As a team lower in the standings, the Devils have one of the first opportunities to claim the veteran defenseman.
Although we won't find out whether or not Souray was claimed until noon tomorrow, it's difficult to believe that the Devils would claim him. Even though they would only be responsible for half of his salary, the Devils are already facing cap issues next season with Zach Parise due to be a restricted free agent. Adding Souray's $2.7 million will be $2.7 million that they can't use to re-sign what is supposed to be a corner stone of the Devils franchise. Even though the Devils are playing like a playoff team, they have a lot of ground to cover to make it happen and adding Souray seems to be a foolish risk.
