The Devils today officially announced the signing of Jaromir Jagr. The team did not disclose the terms of the contract but it is reportedly a one-year deal with a salary cap hit of $4 million, including a $2 million base salary and $2 million in performance incentives. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer comes to the Devils with 681 goals and 1,007 assists in 1,391 NHL regular-season games, making him the league’s active leader in both scoring categories, and 10th and 12th, respectively, on the all-time lists. His 1,688 points rank eighth in league history and, over the course of an 82-game season, he should be able to pass former teammate Mario Lemieux (1,723) for seventh place. Since returning to the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011-12 after three seasons in the KHL, Jagr has 89 points in 118 regular-season games. That includes 16 goals and 19 assists in 45 games as he split last season between the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins. Jagr is scheduled to speak on a conference call this afternoon. Jagr joining the Devils - his seventh NHL team after stints with the Penguins (including Stanley Cup victories in 1991 and 1992), the Capitals, the Rangers (he set a team single-season record with 54 goals in 2005-06), the Flyers, the Stars and the Bruins - has been the source of strong speculation over the weekend since Saturday when Roman Jedlicka, an NHL play-by-play announcer in the Czech Republic, citing a “good source,” reported via Twitter it was “99 percent” certain that Jagr was coming to New Jersey. There were also reports that he was at Prudential Center on Thursday visiting the facilities and discussing a potential contract.
