The New Jersey Devils  traded forward Brian Rolston to the New York Islanders and in return received a 2012 conditional draft pick as well as forward Trent Hunter. Just days prior to a salary arbitration hearing with Zach Parise, the New Jersey Devils traded Brian Rolston to the New York Islanders and freed up $3,062,500 in cap space. The Devils acquired right winger Trent Hunter and a conditional 2012 draft pick in the deal. In December 2010, the Devils put Rolston on waivers. He cleared waivers, but returned to finish the season with New Jersey. Rolston played nine seasons over two stints with the Devils. Hunter, 31, has two years remaining on his contract with an annual cap hit of $2 million. After 17 games into the 2010-2011 season, Hunter injured his MCL and missed the rest of the season.
