This past decade, the New York Islander fan base has been through the wringer. They’ve watched helplessly as politicians condemned their building on their way to evicting their team. Couple this with five consecutive last place finishes in their division, and it makes sense why the fans reacted they way they did as the Isles competed with His Majesty Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one of the NHL Playoffs. It was a cathartic exhale.     Now that the Islanders have been eliminated, their off ice issues will come to the forefront. The most intriguing news surrounding the Isles is their move to The Barclays Center, 30 miles west of Nassau Coliseum. (Just a quick geography lesson before moving on, Brooklyn is technically on Long Island. It isn’t a part of Long Island the place, but it is on Long Island the land mass. One of those, a rhombus is a square but a square isn’t a rhombus type of things.) When asked how they feel about the move, every Islander fan has the sa...

Despite Early Exit, Coliseum Was True Advantage for New York Islanders

Photo credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Nassau Coliseum was quite different Tuesday than it had been three days prior. The ice was gone and instead of fans there were only workers. There was no cheering anymore, just the sound of silence. But as the New York Islanders gathered their things and said goodbye to the 2013 season, they fondly remembered one last...

Dee Karl: Letting It All Sink In

As yesterday was Mother's Day, I didn't even have a chance to raed the newspaper. Too many things going on with the family. I also wasn't ready for the New York Islanders post mortem reports. I also didn't write anything. If I couldn't read the obituaries, I sure as hell wasn't going to be able to write one. I couldn't even go into the locker room...

Paul McCann: On to Round Two!

The Conference semi’s are set, but before we go to those, let’s see how I did on my predictions… #1 Pittsburgh vs. #8 New York Islanders – My Call - Pens in 4 / Actual – Pens in 5 - I have to admit, the islanders put up more of a fight than I expected, they did the Penguins a favor in pushing them to five fairly difficult games. That should help Pittsburgh...

Sidney Crosby is a Finalist for the Masterton

Another award nomination for Sid and for a member of the Penguins. From the NHL: Crosby, 25, missed most of the previous two seasons dealing with concussion issues, and then the first half of the 2012-13 season -- along with the rest of the League -- during the lockout. Questions were asked if Crosby ever could be the same player he was prior to his injuries. Instead, he returned...

Marc-André Fleury: A quandary for Pittsburgh, a headache for Canada

From Roy MacGregor of the Toronto Globe and Mail: Three Dog Night had it all wrong. One is not the loneliest number. It’s 29. No. 29, also known as Marc-André Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins, is on the ice at Consol Energy Center. He is skating between Zambonis as they re-surface the ice: crouched over, head bowed, deep in thought that does not require a mind-reader...
