ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Ryan Johansen scored a disputed goal in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Johansen's shot initially was ruled a rebound, but a video review showed that Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper did not touch the puck, making it a legal shootout goal. With the win, Columbus stayed one point ahead of Philadelphia in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, while Minnesota pushed its lead over Dallas to five points in the race for seventh in the West. The shootout capped a night of brilliant goaltending from the Blue Jackets' Sergei Bobrovsky and Minnesota's Kuemper. Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 33 shots through overtime, while Kuemper finished with 28 saves. In the shootout, Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu scored for Minnesota, but Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu rallied the Blue Jackets to set up Johansen's clincher.

Ryan Johansen's childhood friendship endures in the pros

When Ryan Johansen was 10 years old, he moved into a new community outside Vancouver. He quickly found a friend in next door neighbor, Brian Bunka, with whom he could play street hockey every day. Eleven years later, those same two boys were playing hockey on the main ice in Nationwide Arena, and Johansen's best friend was scoring on the reigning Vezina winner, Columbus Blue...

Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 2-1 shootout win over the Wild

One: Sergei Bobrovsky kept Columbus in the game with stellar saves all night long. His performance was eerily reminiscent of last year's stretch run. Timely saves, with many of the outstanding variety, paved the way for the team to win it in the shootout. A little puck luck with bounces and rebounds didn't hurt, either. Two: The best line for the Blue Jackets tonight was...

Wild shot down again, this time by Columbus

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For 65 minutes Saturday, Darcy Kuemper and Sergei Bobrovsky waged a goaltending duel that befit two teams who have climbed in their respective conference standings led by the goaltenders. Kuemper, the Minnesota Wild rookie, went stop for stop with Bobrovsky, the defending Vezina Trophy winner for the league's best goaltender, until the shootout and he even...

Nick Foligno says Blue Jackets are committed to playoff-style hockey every game

It's been a little harder to notice Nick Foligno lately. Not that the Blue Jackets winger hasn't been making big plays, mind you. It's just that he hasn't been on his skates when he's made those plays. In the Columbus win over Detroit Tuesday, Foligno scored that huge first-period goal to tie the Red Wings 1-1 after Detroit seemed ready to take over the game....

Columbus Blue Jackets: the road to the playoffs

It has been an eventful week for the Columbus Blue Jackets (34-26-6) who now are ranked second in the Metropolitan Division. The week began with an emotional game against the Dallas Stars (32-23-10) which was postponed after Stars player Rich Peverley collapsed and was rushed to the hospital in the middle of the first period. The following two games resulted in an exciting win against...

Blue Jackets win close one over Wild

After taking over 2nd place in the Metro on Thursday, the Blue Jackets slid back into the wild card spot thanks to Philadelphia's victory over Pittsburgh earlier today. With the Minnesota Wild locked in a playoff chase of their own, both teams were looking for points at any cost, and they played like it. Both Sergei Bobrovsky and Darcy Kuemper were lights out in the first period...

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  Sibling rivalry is a very natural thing as brothers and sisters battle out for percieved favor from parents or those outside the family.  No one wants to be known as the "other" sibling.  "Other" of course is a euphemism for being disappointing or a lesser version of a more honored and distinguished sibling.  Over the...

Wild analyst Mike Greenlay takes a high stick between the benches

When you think about it, it's kind of remarkable that "inside the glass" analysts don't get hurt more often. Sure, Pierre McGuire's been nicked once or twice, but that's it, which is surprising. They're stationed in between the benches with no glass in front of them, barely a partition between them and the players, oh, and there's a bunch of gigantic...

Three takeaways from Blue Jackets 4-3 shootout loss to Sharks

One: Columbus minimized their mistakes and skated toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the NHL. They played "their" game, not getting caught up in a track meet with the fast and physical Sharks. Two: They were opportunistic, especially on the first goal by Ryan Johansen. They utilized sustained pressure and a decent fore-check to help slow down San Jose. They are finding...

Blue Jackets-Wild Preview

A wild-card spot appears to be the Minnesota Wild's only way into the playoffs, and they have some work to do in solidifying their hopes of securing one. Coming off a critical victory, the Wild will look to start stringing victories together again Saturday night when they host a Columbus Blue Jackets team that has even less room for error in the Eastern Conference. Minnesota...

68. Minnesota Wild at Boston Bruins. And on this day, Saint Patrice drove the Wild from the Garden

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Whatever this holiday means to you, enjoy it. Let's get down to the brass tax here:  People wearing green hockey jerseys.  God I hate them. I will always hate them. I especially hate it when teams try to "Irish up" players names thinking it's fun and cute. It's not fun. It's not cute. It's ******* stupid. You...
