It's not a fun picture this morning for the Edmonton Oilers. Although 15th in the west is a distant bell, they certainly have a nice shot at 13th before Christmas and could spend the back half of the season failing for Nail. On what planet is this acceptable? The Oilers never make a significant change at this time of year. During the Kevin-Lowe-in-management era, Edmonton has made exactly one big December trade: in 2003 they cut the Comrie cord on December 16th, acquiring Jeff Woywitka and two draft picks (which Kevin Prendergast turned into Robbie Schremp and Danny Syvret). In November of 2000, Lowe dealt Bill Guerin and the Oilers 2001 1st round pick (Boston selected Shaone Morrissonn) to Boston for Anson Carter and the Bruins 1st rounder (KP selected Ales Hemsky).Edmonton Oilers fans awake today to the sounds of Sonny and Cher on the radio and a repeat of Groundhog Day. I don't know if this is the day we drive the truck off the cliff or the day we spend all of our efforts g...

The Edmonton Oilers are brimming with prospects. The last two #1 prospects (Hall and RNH) are tracking well and another graduate (Jordan Eberle) has the tools to run with that pack. The rest of this year's group is all about the blue. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will graduate the list later in the season. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, but the young man looks very good. Anton...
Detroit takes on the Edmonton Oilers tonight with a 9:30 pm puck drop on FSD. The Wings just destroyed the Manchester Monarchs Los Angeles Kings Saturday night, and should have no problem dispatching the Oilers in the same fashion.Click the jump for more...

A great defenseman is like a warm blanket on a cold winter's morning. Opposition sorties dissolve like sugar in coffee, alka-seltzer in water. The puck is moved up expertly and the shot gets through on the powerplay. Calm feet. Big brains. Complete skill set. A great NHL defenseman is a very valuable item. The photo shows the expansion Buffalo Sabres against the veteran Red Wings...
As the Detroit Red Wings prepare to face off against the Edmonton Oilers tonight (9:30 PM EST, FSD/Sportsnet West/WXYT), the Wings are just wrapping up their morning skate in Edmonton, and given the workload to come in three games over the next four nights, no news is good news, per MLive’s Ansar Khan...
Everyone at the skate. Same lines 93-13-44, 51-40-26, 11-43-20, 48-8-96....
This is Gary Simmons. Crazy. The Seals had nothing so searched for talent everywhere and found Simmons playing in the Newfoundland Senior League. That league must have been underscouted because the Seals turned up a few players from that part of the world. I could show you the connection between the Oakland Seals and San Jose Sharks but you'd have to pack a lunch and it would...
SHARKS VS. EDMONTONFaceoff: 7 p.m. at HP PavilionTV/Radio: CSNCA; 98.5, 102.1, 92.1Oilers update: C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is lead candidate for rookie of the year and the team's leading scorer, but only nine of his 33 points have come on the road.
Tonight's matchup for the Detroit Red Wings seems to be a favorable one, as they take on the Edmonton Oilers in the opener of a four- game road trip at Rexall Place.
The Edmonton Oilers sent Magnus Paajarvi to the minors today, hoping some time in OKC will see him get his confidence and scoring touch back over the next few weeks. Paajarvi has always been the offensive third wheel among the gifted 10-11 rookies (Hall, Eberle, MP) but that's a helluva crowd to run with and he could be a productive player in his own right. 10-11 5x5/60Eberle...
