There are great causes. And there are lame, ill-fated, and ******* stupid ones. Today's lame cause is this piss poor video about stopping the NHL lockout.

Aww that's so cute. And by cute we mean irrationally stupid.  Things that won't happen EVER happen:   Fan stopping an NHL lockout.   And that's okay. Everyone has this grand idea sometimes that they want to rally. Like Pensin7, or one of the dumb things we've come up with over the years. Sometimes it just won't work, and its one of those times now.   For instance we got this email today...

Hi There... my name is Tony Galiffo.  Just like you i am a devoted hockey fan. (cbj 13 years [albiet it feels like 60])

Anyways i am organizing Continental Wide ANTI-Bettman protest at every NHL arena on september 15th @ 3pm (in each timezone) To send a clear message that we fans will not be treated like garbage and actually have a voice.

We are on the verge of another nhl lockout, the third in the era of commissioner Gary Bettman. We as a fan base need to be united and show him our displeasure.

We cannot let Bettman take away another year of hockey when the players are willing to give up 400 to a possible 800 million dollars, for the love of their game. We Stand behind the players.

Let's save our season, and enjoy our game.

Create a event like i just created in columbus (https://www.facebook.com/events/402141833174730/) Use social media  like twitter and use the tag #NHLunite (plus your teams personal twitter tag), Post on a your blogs, and organize with your local hockey bars and local nhl arenas.

I know this sounds stupid  coming from a lonely jackets fan, but this is not for my selfish needs. But this is for our game.

Since it is early in the am, I am sending this to only a few of the bigger blogs at the moment, i will cover the rest soon.  But please spread #NHLunite . You will be surprised how fast word of mouth spreads.

I hope we can get drunk, scream at hockey games on in late September, but if not... let's get drunk and scream at those who deserve it.

Take care.

-Tony

PS if you can forward to other bloggers you know, i would be extremely thankful and whether you support this or not... thanks for reading.

We emailed him this back:

If you're going to have an anti-bettman protest should you ask all of us to protest against the owners of our teams?

Blaming Gary Bettman for the lockout or wanting to have a lockout is one of the dumbest things you can do. We're not absolving him by any means, but you have to remember that Gary Bettman works for the owners first and foremost.

Instead of rallying against him, maybe create a few post educating yourself and your readers. The whole "stand behind the players," portion of this email maybe the most embarrassing thing we've ever read.

Fans are the losers here, there is no difference between the Players and the Owners. Taking sides between them make no sense.

All we can hope is that cooler heads prevail, and we get back to business.

If you utter the following, " This is all Gary Bettman's fault, " then you are truely doing it so wrong. It is his fault, it is the owners fault,  and it is the NHLPA's fault in no particular order.   And how bizarre are the people taking the " I'll never watch hockey again," position? Really? Good luck with that. We're all going to watch hockey when it comes back at some point. If you don't you'll be part of literally like five people jerking off on your living room floor. Don't buy into any of these movements, don't buy into idiots like Allan Walsh, because all you are going to do is waste your time.   The lockout is going to be dark, it's going to be cruel, and it is going to be long.  But most of all, it isn't going to be avoided because someone makes a youtube video and twitter hash tag.
