According to the Denver Post’s Adrian Dater, anyone who cheers for a sports team other than the sports team which represents their geographical locale is a “dorkish” person who is a “bandwagoneer.” Well what’s a person that makes the injury-laden Red Wings’ players, their fans, the organization and the entire Metro Detroit area look as terrible as the person he beat up? According to WDIV Local 4 (via RedWingsFeed), Dearborn City Councilman Bob Abraham was assaulted after Sunday’s Wings-Hawks game because Abraham’s son’s pals came to town from Chicago to cheer their Blackhawks on, and dared to wear Hawks jerseys to the game: “We ran into a gentleman who was just not happy to see Blackhawks fans in Detroit,” Abraham said. The man was driving a blue Chevrolet sports utility vehicle out of a parking lot west of the arena. He got out of the SUV to confront the Chicago fans with Abraham. “I remember telling the guy, ‘Just please, go back to your car. They’re just kids. They’re not

Wounded Wings lose Howard, Kindl

DETROIT -- Forget about trying to get healthy. For now, the Red Wings are merely trying to stop the bleeding. Already missing defensemen Nick Lidstrom (ankle), Jonathan Ericsson (wrist), Pavel Datsyuk (knee) and Patrick Eaves (jaw, concussion), the Wings lost two more players againstthe Chicago Blackhawks Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Jakub Kindl left the game in the first period...

Red Wings off-day news: Datsyuk skating; Bertuzzi, Howard, Lidstrom, Kindl, Cleary not

Today’s Red Wings news went from bad to worse when the Wings, who will attempt to bounce back from their 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks when they head to Philadelphia to face the Flyers and watch Mark Howe’s number be retired by his former team, announced that the team had recalled Doug Janik, Chris Conner and Jordan Pearce to replace Jakub Kindl (“upper-body”), Todd...

Video: Kronwall levels Flyers W with huge hit

Niklas Kronwall’s hit on Jakub Voracek Tuesday night was one that you could feel through the TV. The Red Wings were playing the Flyers in Detroit and almost midway through the second period Kronwall laid the back of his shoulder into the body of Voracek and absolutely crushed him. Voracek got up immediately following the hit but had very little understanding of where he was...

Red Wings call up Janik (for Kindl), Pearce (for Howard), Conner (for Bertuzzi)

According to MLive’s Ansar Khan, the Detroit Red Wings have officially used all four of their post-trade deadline call-ups as Doug Janik, Jordan Pearce and Chris Conner have been recalled to replace three banged-up Red Wings players—and here’s hoping that Jakub Kindl (“upper-body”), Jimmy Howard (“lower-body”/groin), Todd Bertuzz (groin) and the player that wasn’t...

Red Wings-Flyers set-up and overnight report: Howe about a necessary win for banged-up Wings?

The Detroit Red Wings face off against a team which they simply don’t know all that well in the Philadelphia flyers tonight (7:00 PM, FSD will air the Mark Howe #2 retirement ceremony in full/CSN Philadelphia/97.1 the Ticket) hoping that the fact that Detroit goes into this game severely undermanned (no Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, Jimmy Howard, Todd Bertuzzi, Jakub Kindl or...

Red Wings-Flyers wrap-up and overnight report: effort and controversy, yes, results, no

The Detroit Red Wings took a midnight flight back to Detroit to engage in two much-needed days of rest and practicing, especially in terms of the Wings’ lengthy list of injured players (see: Todd Bertuzzi, Jonathan Ericsson, Pavel Datsyuk, Jimmy Howard, Jakub Kindl, Nicklas Lidstrom)  after dropping their 5th of their past 7 games via a spirited but unsuccessful 3-2 loss to the...

Even When It’s Not About The Wings? It’s Still About The Wings

San Jose, as you may know, has beaten Detroit two straight years in the playoffs.  Yet, with pessimism ruling the day out west? They’re reaffirming what we already knew…like everyone else, the Sharks are just trying to get close to what the Wings have become. SJ Mercury News “Pavel Datsyuk doesn’t lead this league in scoring,” Wilson said of the Detroit Red Wings star...

Red Wings-Blackhawks game-day mad dash: Bertuzzi’s a game-time decision

As the Detroit Red Wings prepare to face off against the Chicago Blackhawks this afternoon (4 PM EST, FSD with Justin Abdelkader “mic’ed up” for the game/WGN/NHL Network U.S.—i.e. Center Ice/GameCenter Live are gonna be blacked out/97.1 the Ticket), we have a spartan but no less important slate of pre-game updates. Neither team took a morning skate due to the mid-afternoon...

Red Wings Recap 3.4.2012

The better team lost, but that's what happens every time Detroit loses to South Wisconsin.Full recap after the jump: Detroit lost because they didn't score on the PP. It was that the South Wisconsin PK was so good or that Emery was awesome. Detroit had chances; they had shots. They hit posts, but couldn't bury it. The bad guys got the breaks they needed and road some...

Blackhawks 2, Red Wings 1

Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Kane broke a tie late in the second period in the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Sunday. Ray Emery made 23 saves to help Chicago solidify its hold on the sixth playoff spot in the Western Conference. Niklas Kronwall scored for Detroit, 27-4-2 at home. Jimmy Howard made four saves before leaving...

Red Wings-Blackhawks wrap-up and overnight report: owies and home-ice disadvantage

I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the Red Wings reassigned Chris Conner to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday evening, and they didn’t call anyone up after losing Jakub Kindl (“upper-body”) early in the 1st period and Jimmy Howard (“lower-body,” probably his groin) after the 1st period ended to what were probably precautionary measures...

Blackhawks hand Red Wings rare home loss

DETROIT (AP) -- Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Kane broke a tie late in the second period in the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Sunday. Ray Emery made 23 saves to help Chicago solidify its hold on the sixth playoff spot in the Western Conference. Niklas Kronwall scored for Detroit, 27-4-2 at home. Jimmy Howard made four...

Red Wings-Flyers quick take: an ‘A for effort’

I know that the Detroit Red Wings dropped a 3-2 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers because of the usual reasons that have haunted them over their past half-dozen or so games—puckhandling errors by their goaltender, a power play that went 0-for-4 again, plain old fluke bounces and an inability to rally after surrendering a multiple-goal deficit… But for f***‘s ake, I’m a...

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 3/6/12 vs Red Wings (Mark Howe Night)

PREVIEW 4 AM EST Looking for their third consecutive victory and fourth in the last five games, the Philadelphia Flyers (36-21-7) return to home ice tonight to take on the always-dangerous Detroit Red Wings (43-20-3) at the Wells Fargo Center on Mark Howe Jersey Retirement Night. The ceremony will take place prior to the start of tonight's game at 7 p.m. EST. Both the Howe...

Blackhawks Earn Two Big Points In Detroit

The Red Wings might have been without a few of their better players, including Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom. And they may have been forced to pull Jimmy Howard because of a lower-body injury after the first period. And the … Continue reading →
