Anaheim Ducks prospect Kyle Palmieri has been added to the United States roster for the 2012 IIHF World Championship, which starts on Friday in Helsinki and Stockholm.

Palmieri, 21, played in 18 games for the Ducks this season, scoring four goals and recording three assists after managing just one goal in 10 NHL games in 2010-11. The 5-foot-11 center also scored 33 goals and handed out 25 assists in 51 games for Anaheim's AHL affiliate in Syracuse. He concluded his season with the Crunch on Friday, as Syracuse was knocked out of the Calder Cup playoffs by the St. John's IceCaps.

Palmieri is one of just five players on the U.S. roster who did not play the majority of his season in the NHL. Forward Ryan Lasch had 24 goals and 38 assists in 59 games for the Pelicans in Finland's SM-liiga, while goaltender John Curry posted a 22-20 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage for the Hamburg Freezers in Germany's top league. Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Brown, who signed with the team as a free agent following the completion of his college season at Minnesota Duluth, is also on the U.S. roster, as is Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson, who had seven goals and seven assists in 27 games for the Blue Jackets while playing 51 games for the team's AHL affiliate in Springfield, Mass.

Palmieri will join the Ducks' Bobby Ryan and Cam Fowler on the U.S. roster. Other top NHLers on the U.S. team included Islanders forward Kyle Okposo, Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski, Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson and Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.

The U.S. will play all of its preliminary games in Helsinki, as part of a group that also includes Canada, Switzerland, Slovaka, Belarus, France, Kazakhstan and host Finland.

The U.S. opens its schedule on Friday against France. The game is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. local time at Hartwall Arena.
