Heading into the second round of the playoffs, here is an early look at some candidates to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Most Valuable Player in the Stanley Cup playoffs). Photo Credit: (Scott Rovak, USA TODAY Sports) Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings: The defending Conn Smythe winner is at it again, single-handedly keeping the Kings alive in the first round of the playoffs. Quick is seeing the puck extremely well, which means the only real opportunity to score will be via the redirection. If the Kings can manage to score two-three goals per game, they should make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals. via quacked.com David Krejci, Boston Bruins: The Bruins have a lot of momentum after their miraculous comeback against Toronto in game seven. Krejci leads the playoffs in goals (5) and points (13). Look for the defensive minded Bruins to keep riding Krejci’s hot stick against Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers. Photo Credit: (David E. Klutho/SI) Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers: The most dangerous player in playoff hockey is a hot goalie, and Lundqvist has finally hit his stride. In two elimination games against the Washington Capitals, the defending Vezina winner allowed zero goals, making 62 saves in the process. Boston will look to snap King Henrik’s shutout streak, but it won’t be easy. Photo Credit: (Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports) Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins: Sid the Kid just does it all. Every time he steps on the ice, there is potential for a big play. Broken jaw and all, Crosby is the best player in hockey, and nobody can contain his vision, intelligence, or play-making ability. The Penguins will need continued strong play from new starting goalie Tomas Vokoun if they hope to make a deep playoff run, but ultimately Crosby has the talent to completely take over the playoffs and lead Pittsburgh back to the Stanley Cup. -Langer
