FRISCO, Texas -- Considering that the Dallas Stars are just one game into the 2013-14 regular season, it might be at least a week before Stars fans get their first glimpse of backup goaltender Dan Ellis between the pipes. Ellis, 33, is a veteran netminder who started his career in the Dallas organization as the 60th overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and who also made his league debut with the Stars on Feb. 8, 2004 against the Kings, stopping 25 shots to earn the win in a 4-3 victory over LA. He has also played for the Predators, Lightning, Ducks and Hurricanes since and even spent part of last season in the minors, but took such an assignment like the true professional he is and definitely made the most of his time in the American Hockey League (AHL). But now he's back in Dallas to serve as Kari Lehtonen's backup and the seasoned goalie couldn't be happier with making his return to the Stars organization, one he last played in during the 2006-07 season when he ...

Dallas Stars and Opening Night

It’s about that time, Dallas Stars fans.. The start of a new season, new faces on and behind the bench and new uniforms. One thing is for certain, Tom Gaglardi and co’ are intent on turning around this franchise. Some would argue they have put the cart before the horse in some respects. I would argue that at least they are doing something, rather than sitting on the fence. On...

Ruff, Stars defensemen like where group is at heading into season

FRISCO, Texas -- With all of the changes made to the Dallas Stars on and off the ice during the offseason one area where many changes weren't made was at the blue line. The Stars added just one new defenseman in veteran Sergei Gonchar, who was acquired in a trade with the Ottawa Senators on June 7. Gonchar then signed a two-year deal with the Stars one day later. But other...

Valeri Nichushkin just wants a chance to be himself

Valeri Nichushkin has trouble speaking English but there’s no doubt he understands what’s being said. In fact it seems the 18-year-old Russian winger understands everything. And yet he seems to have a determination and confidence that’s stronger than even his most...

Tyler Seguin Trade a ‘Rude Awakening,’ Says Brad Marchand

The Brad Marchand-Tyler Seguin bromance came to a screeching halt over the summer when the Bruins traded the former No. 2 overall pick to the Dallas Stars. Marchand, who has a place comfortably on the Bruins second line next to Patrice Bergeron and opposite Loui Eriksson (the main piece of the Seguin trade puzzle), took the move professionally as he understands this game is a business...
