When the news was released that the Flyers would be hosting this season’s Winter Classic, the excitement and buzz it created was certainly noticeable. However, there are several other games being played on the rink at Citizens Bank, including a Phantoms against Bears matchup and an alumni game.

The alumni game may have just caught up to the Winter Classic game hype this evening for Flyers fans.

In an exclusive interview with Justin (@JustinTHW) at thehockeywriters.com, former Flyer great Eric Lindros confirmed that he has received an invite from Flyers’ GM Paul Holmgren to participate in the alumni game.

In the interview, Lindros talked about the current state of the NHL, his time with the Flyers, and possibly playing at Citizens Bank Park this winter. Lindros said he hasn’t talked to Holmgren since their initially conversation, but sounded excited when talking about the opportunity to possibly play with former teammates in Philadelphia.

“I talked with Paul Holmgren about a month or five weeks back and we chatted about it,” stated Lindros. “That’d be great if I could see Mikael Renberg again, and Johnny LeClair. I haven’t seen Johnny in a couple of years. That would be a lot of fun.”

Reuniting the “Legion of Doom” for a game in Philly would certainly draw a large audience in this market, and many are already excited about the possibility after The Hockey Guys broke the news late this evening.

Lindros also said he would be interested in doing charity work while he was in town, saying, “we could set up something along the lines where we could do something for CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia), maybe have a lunch or do something along those lines. We could bring in hockey fans and chat a little bit about what we’re up to and sign a bunch of stuff.”

It seems like the former Flyers great, who scored 659 points in 486 games with the franchise, is more than willing to participate in the events this December and January at Citizens Bank Park. I think I speak for all Philadelphia fans when I say I hope he does, along with his fellow Legion of Doom members.
