DETROIT (AP) -- Jonathan Ericsson scored with 5 seconds left to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. The Kings failed to clear the puck, less than a minute after they tied the game, and Ericsson took advantage. His slap shot from above the right circle trickled through Jonathan Quick's pads. Los Angeles pulled Quick with a minute left to add an extra skater and forward Kyle Clifford got off the bench in time to keep the puck in the Detroit end. Clifford's shot rebounded off Jimmy Howard and Alec Martinez scored on a putback to make it 2-all at the 19:07 mark of the third period. Pavel Datsyuk and Damien Brunner scored on shots set up by Henrik Zetterberg in the first period and Howard made 45 saves to help the Red Wings win three straight for the first time this year. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings, who started the day among the Western Conference teams with the fewest points, have won only one of their last five games. Los Angeles defenseman Drew Doughty tried to give his team a boost by checking Datsyuk hard early in the first period. Datsyuk, though, bounced back within a couple minutes to score on a wrist shot off an assist from Zetterberg. Brunner took advantage of another assist from Zetterberg to put Detroit up 2 late in the first period. Anze Kopitar pulled the Kings within one with a goal at the 19:19 mark of the second period. Detroit held onto the 2-1 lead because Jimmy Howard made 23 saves in the scoreless second period. The Red Wings gave up more shots (38) through two periods than they had in an entire game this season and that total surpassed the total number of shots the Kings had in any game this year. Los Angeles was shut out 3-0 in its previous game despite outshooting the Nashville Predators 32-14 Thursday. Quick kept the Kings within a goal early in the third period when he stopped Drew Miller's shot and rebound attempt, and they scored late in the regulation to have a shot at earning a point. Quick finished with 28 saves. NOTES: Zetterberg, who is among NHL scoring leaders, had 16 points in his previous 10 games and Brunner, who is among rookie leaders, had eight points in his previous nine games. ... The Kings scratched Dustin Penner, Colin Fraser and Jake Muzzin. ... Detroit's Mike Babcock, a former Anaheim Ducks coach, was on the bench in his 750th NHL game and improved to 428-220-102. ... Darryl Sutter, who has coached 900-plus NHL games, has won 28 of his 437 games in Los Angeles. ... Kopitar had five points in his previous six games. ... Detroit put goalie Joey MacDonald on waivers and plans to send him to the minors if he isn't claimed by Monday.
