Boarding is a very simple call to make in the NHL. It is also one of the easiest penalties to avoid, along with one of the more dangerous. When the Florida Panthers’ Erik Gudbranson checked newly acquired Washington Capital Martin Erat between the numbers last night, you can only ask yourself “why?”
I understand players are playing hard and not always thinking straight, but why would you try to injure another player. It is not as though it was accidental, Erat wasn’t right up against the boards (hence the boarding penalty and game misconduct).
Gudbranson should see some disciplinary action from the NHL, I would expect 1-2 games. Let’s just hope Erat is ok after taking such an awkward tumble into the boards.

Even when Washington Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin was a wee lad in Moscow, his dreams of achieving great success on the international stage playing hockey caused his gaze to turn away from Mother Russia and instead directed his eyes far, far from the Motherland and instead towards the sparkling shores of the United States of America.

Ovechkin looks to continue his home dominance of the Lightning on Sunday night, when he attempts to help the Capitals begin building a cushion atop the Southeast Division.
Alexander Ovechkin scored twice as the Washington Capitals doubled up the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 and took over sole possession of the Southeast Division lead with their fourth straight win. Vincent Lecavalier had a goal and an assist for Tampa in the loss.
