With the All Star break now in the rear view mirror, there's never been a better time to reflect back on the repulsive previous four-month span more affectionately known to some as the 2011-12 Buffalo Sabres season. In an effort to put the first half behind us, below you'll find a lengthy, yet brilliant evaluation of each and every individual who has played one role or another in the disappointment thus far. Indulge and enjoy. The "Core": Jason Pominville (51 GP, 17 G 30 A, Minus-7) Grade: A- If this we're just another season for Pommer, I probably would've given him an "A" or something to that effect. But this season is anything but just another season for the long-time Sabre. Being named captain is no easy job by any means. If anything, especially for a team that struggles like the Sabres have, donning the "C" on your chest may be one of the biggest burdens in sports. From a statistical standpoint, Pominville has been outstandin...

Sabres rookie D McNabb demoted to AHL Rochester

The Buffalo Sabres have demoted defenseman Brayden McNabb to AHL Rochester, where the rookie will have the benefit of getting more playing time after missing eight games with a concussion. Coach Lindy Ruff announced the move Thursday, saying McNabb has been cleared to play. Ruff says McNabb was sent down to allow him to get additional ice time. That's unlikely to happen in...

What’s Wrong With The Buffalo Sabres?

Last season the Buffalo Sabres finished in the seventh seed in the East Conference with a 43-39 record with 10 regulation tie points. Many thought they looked like a team ready to make a big step toward being a solid Stanley Cup contender when new owner Terry Pegula opened the purse strings and signed free agents Christian Ehrhoff to a ten year contract worth a total of $40 million...

GARTH: Wanted: Goal Scorer

If we had a dollar for every "ping" and ""clunk" of iron we've heard this season from the Sabres, we'd all be very rich people. Goal scoring, and, the lack thereof, is killing the Buffalo Sabres right now. How the Hell do the Sabres shutout the Rangers for 65 minutes, and still lose the game in a shootout? That game should've ended 0-0....

Miller nearing Hasek's Sabres goalie wins mark

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller doesn't need to be reminded he's one career win from breaking Dominik Hasek's team record.

Ryan Miller has shot at Dominik Hasek's franchise record with Sabres

During a season in which very little has gone right for Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres, the goalie prefers hedging his bets on when -- or even whether -- he'll catch Dominik Hasek in the franchise record book.

Ref leaves game after taking puck to face

Referee Kelly Sutherland left Wednesday's game between the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers when he was hit in the face by a puck. Sutherland was hurt just over 5 1/2 minutes into the first period when he was struck by a deflection off a slap shot from Buffalo's Jordan Leopold. He appeared wobbly and had to be assisted off the ice after being treated by a trainer.

Sabres, Habs chirp about who got their asses kicked more by the bWo

You know ****'s bad when your chances of making it in the playoffs are in the gutter. But **** gets downright hilarious when those teams start using the Boston Bruins as a centering point for their trash talking.Last night our old friends the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens faced off and things got a little intense towards the end of the game. Some choice words were...

Sabres-Islanders Preview

Ryan Miller is on the cusp of setting a Buffalo Sabres record, but the team's disappointing season is casting a damper on that accomplishment. Miller figures to be in net Saturday night trying to become the Sabres' career wins leader when they face the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. Miller's 234 wins tie him with Dominic Hasek for the most in team history. ...

Sabres call up Kassian amid injury to Vanek

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled rookie forward Zack Kassian from AHL Rochester prior to their home game against the New York Rangers.

GARTH: Staff Infection?

6:55pm Its likely that Drew Stafford is the unidentified Sabres forward who was under the weather this morning. If its the case, then #kickassian will skate with Ennis and Gerbe. Luke Adam will skate in place of Vanek. The pre game twirl is moments away. I'll confirm for you then. ***

Hab's winning again...

Here is the latest dust up on the ice. This time the Montreal Canadians players are whining and complaining about something that the Buffalo Sabres forward Paul Gaustad said on the ice, and after further review, it would appear that Max Pacioretty said something stupid to Gaustad first and got a response and got a quick response back. In my opinion it sounds like Pacioretty got PWND...

Sabres rookie defenseman McNabb sent to AHL

New York Rangers (31-12-5) at Buffalo Sabres (21-24-5), 7:30 p.m. (ET)

A week off seemed to do wonders for the Buffalo Sabres, who are now on their first winning streak in almost three months. They'll try to push their run of success to three straight this evening as they take on the New York Rangers, who hopefully left something in the tank after last night's back-and-forth affair with a division rival.
