At the end of the second period of Game 1 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins, there was some pushing and shoving between the two teams.  Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin and Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron took things to the next level and actually dropped the gloves in this brief tilt.  It wasn’t much of a fight, but it set the tone that these two teams are going to be at each others throats for this series. Matt Cooke ejected for check on McQuaid

Matt Cooke is public enemy No. 1 in Boston … again. The controversial Penguins forward (best known in Beantown for ending Marc Savard‘s career with this hit) was ejected from Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday after checking Adam McQuaid into the boards from behind. Cooke was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct, and McQuaid went to the Boston locker...

Tracking the Playoffs: Penguins vs. Bruins Game 1

If you're wondering why I did not have any scoring chances posted from the last round, it's a long story. I'll just say that I've had a limited amount of spare time the last few weeks and was not able to post any analysis of the second round. Despite that minor setback, I should be back in full force for the Conference Finals and will provide a closer look at the...

Bruins Grab ‘Steeltown Stunner’ Win From Penguins in Surprisingly Easy Fashion (Video)

It wasn’t supposed to be this easy. Right? The Bruins cruised to a 3-0 win over the Penguins in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, laying waste to the expectations that many had set out for the team entering play. After all, the Pens were the ones thought to have the superior squad, and the B’s were decidedly the underdogs. That perception has changed in a big way after...

Tuukka Rask’s First Career Playoff Shutout Comes at Perfect Time As Bruins Blank Penguins in Game 1

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask just looked to be skating back to the bench at the end of the second period in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final. That’s where he came across Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. The two made a little bit of contact, which led to a little bit of stickwork between the two and eventually a shove from Crosby. That was about the closest that any Penguin came...

David Krejci, Bruins Shine in Best Images From Dominating Game 1 Victory Over Penguins (Photos)

The Bruins came into Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals as underdogs. It would be difficult to call them that after this one. Boston dominated throughout, running away from the Penguins en route to a 3-0 victory and a one-game lead in this best-of-seven series. David Krejci‘s two goals paced the Bruins to a surprisingly easy victory, in a game that set the stage for some serious...

A Team of Fans @bigeagle12

I’ve never done anything of this sort before, but I guess what better time than now? The Penguins are being forced into a hiatus in excess of a week due to a NKOTB concert (I know, right?) which results in me having some free time. I have read multiple articles over the past several months that have argued whether or not the fans are truly a part of the team or not. Sure, they...

Bruins, Penguins Finally Ready to Drop Puck After Week-Long Layoff (Video)

Bruins fans have waited seven long days, but we have finally reached the eve of the Eastern Conference finals. After a week of prognosticating, analyzing and dissecting every possible storyline, the puck will drop Saturday night at 8 p.m. for Game 1 between the B’s and the high-powered Pittsburgh Penguins. As Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask said Friday night, “It’s about time....

Hulk Hogan Loves The Bruins: In Old Garden ‘I Could Smell The Stench Of Victory’

For once, I agree with Sidney Crosby: the NHL’s lack of a standard of playoff officiating is dumb

This may be one of the few times a Red Wings fan agrees with Sidney Crosby. I know this isn't Red Wings-related per se, but I've been outspoken in my criticism of the lack of a standard of officiating--for any and all of the NHL's teams and playoff teams to have to operate within since the trade deadline--and I'm baffled by the amount of cheap shots, interference...

Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski Don’t Anticipate Change in Defensive Game Plan Against Penguins

There has been much anticipation for the Eastern Conference finals, as the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins face off after a week-long wait. The Bruins are coming off of a 4-1 series win over the New York Rangers, and the Penguins defeated the Ottawa Senators in 4-1 fashion, as well. Despite Pittsburgh having swept Boston in the regular season, the Bruins are prepared to...

NHL Rivalries Have Entered The World Of Passive-Aggressive Baking With ‘Penguins Cream Pies’

By way of Larry Brown Sports and a baker with no better outlet in which to express his NHL passions comes the PENGUINS CREAM PIE, a strikethrough joke from Oakmont Bakery in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.Y’see, a “Boston cream pie” is a cake frosted with chocolate, filled with custard or cream. Boston is also the home of the Boston Bruins, who are currently up 1-0 against the Pittsburgh...

RECAP: GAME ONE. Four posts and eight days ago. PENS LOSE.

The Bruins and Pens, the last two Cup champs from the East, finally got down to business in Game One, and it was fun.  It's gonna take some type of series to live up to the hype generated by a long eight-day layoff. We're off to a pretty good start.   Crosby and Chara chirped eached other and had a Wrestlemania-like showdown at the end of a wild second period. Malkin...

Previewing the Eastern Conference Finals: Bruins vs Penguins

After a historic comeback in the first round nobody knew what the Bruins would bring to the second round.  After all, they had underachieved and nearly got upset in the first round.  The Rangers provided some unknowns and difficulties to the series, primarily their ability to block shots and the stellar history Henrik Lundqvist has against the Bruins.  However, the Rangers offense...

LINK CITY: Bruins System Breakdown, Ryan Mill.

( spotted at the Eat'nPark at South Hills Village) Almost there. Final round up of some links. -- Mike Colligan with a must-read on the Bruins systems.  [ THW ] In the picture below, the Bruins dumped the puck to Douglas Murray’s (3) corner.  He passed it to Matt Niskanen (2) behind the net and we see F2 attack the puck: Niskanen’s easiest option...

As expected no further #NHL discipline regarding #Pens Cooke hit on #Bruins McQuaid. Cooke avaiable — Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper) June 2, 2013 Meh! Penguins forward Matt Cooke will escape supplemental discipline for his dirty hit on Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid.  I would suppose that the NHL Department of Players Safety put Cooke on double secret probation and any...
