Mike Modano, a forward who played the first four years of a 21-season NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars, will be inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame's Class of 2012. Modano is part of a three-person classed announced Wednesday by USA Hockey that also includes forward Ed Olczyk and general manager Lou Lamoriello. The induction ceremony will be held at a location and date to be announced soon. Modano, 42, played 20 seasons for the North Stars and Stars before finishing his career with the Red Wings in 2010-11. He is the highest-scoring U.S.-born player in NHL history, having finished his career with 1,374 points on 561 goals and 813 assists. Modano holds Stars franchise records for games played, goals, assists and points, but he's remembered by Minnesota fans as the first overall pick in the 1988 draft and an All-Star in his final season with the North Stars before the team moved to Dallas. The eight-time All-Star won a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999. Aside from his NHL resume, Modano played for the Team USA twice in the Olympics, winning a silver medal in 2002.
