This past weekend, the Toronto Maple Leafs saw three of their players─Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul and Dion Phanuef─participate in the All-Star festivities in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. Even with the NHL’s trade deadline quickly approaching it would be silly to think that any of those three could have any chance at moving to a different city on or before February 27.
The Maple Leafs do, however, have multiple players on their roster who could potentially be used as trade bait. Of those players, some are top-level scorers and defenders, while others are just beginning to or have yet to break into the league.
It’s expected that if Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke decides to pull the trigger on a deal to improve his team he will use at least two of those players, as the type of return that the Maple Leafs appear to be interested in includes a top-six forward.
