By Bob Haynes (@BobHaynesJr) First let me say that the All Star Game is a honor and privilege to play and be selected. This is not a serious competitive arena and is really about promoting the sport of hockey. This is also a special treat for the players to play alongside the best the game has to offer each year. That being said the first thing the NHL needs at this game are truly the best players in the game at the moment. This should not be a “stuff the ballot box” campaign to get as many members of the host city on the team. Last year the Hurricanes and their fans got their players to the game. This year the Ottawa Senators have 4 of 6 of the starting players on the team. Really? Quick without looking name the starting six as voted by the fans (answer to appear later). The starting six as elected by the fans are Tim Thomas, Dion Phanuef, and Ottawa Senators. While I can easily agree with the selection of Thomas all and one of the Senators, the other four picks are quite frankly ...

Coyotes fans shouldn't bother booing Turris

The most appropriate reaction to Kyle Turris' return to Phoenix on Tuesday night would be no reaction at all. Its true that Turris inability to live up to his draft status as the No. 3 pick in 2007 is the biggest reason the Coyotes are still staring at a giant hole in the middle of their top line. Its true that Turris was an outcast of the first order in the Coyotes' locker...

Coyotes look to hold off Turris, Senators

The Senators will be well represented on Sunday when they host the All-Star game, but they still have work to do on the road before the NHL's best arrive in Ottawa later this week. With center Kyle Turris making his return to Arizona on Tuesday night after last month's trade to Ottawa, the Senators will try to avoid heading into the break on a three-game losing streak as...

Ottawa's MacLean taking advantage of chance

Five days into their Pacific Division swing, the Ottawa Senators weren't exactly showing the traits of a team coming off a loss the day before while stationed nearly 3,000 miles away from home. Loose and upbeat, the club practiced Sunday at the Toyota Sports Center, the training facility of the Los Angeles Kings and Lakers, and showed all the characteristics of a team enjoying...

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today reassigned forward Stephane Da Costa to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. Da Costa, 22, began the season with Ottawa, registering five points (three goals, two assist...

Travis Yost: Shaking Early Malaise Pivotal for Paul MacLean's Club

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter and Facebook! -- Trying to find flaws in the Ottawa Senators - a team that SportsClubStats now projects at ~ 90% likely to grab a post-season birth - is a difficult task, especially when one looks at all of the full body of work an alleged lottery-bound team has already put together. The 27-17-6 record through 49 GP is a statistical split...

In their final game before the All Star break, the Kings are hosting the Ottawa Senators tonight at the Staples Center. After losing their last two games to Calgary and Colorado, the Kings are looking to avoid a three game losing streak. However the Kings have an on-fire right winger who is showing Los Angeles just what he’s capable of. Justin Williams, who has earned nine...

The Euge Speaks for the Third Time in One Week

After making a long awaited appearance on the Fan 590 last week, Eugene Melnyk gave an exclusive interview with the Ottawa Sun and rehashed on many of the same points that he made during his first interview. The only real difference being that he praised the job that Bryan Murray has done and mentioned that, "He’s got a three-year contract and I think he’s got his eyes on...

Senators-Kings Preview

The Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings were both handed disappointing losses over the weekend. While the Senators could have a hard time regrouping given their lack of road success in this series, the Kings haven't been able to get much going at home of late. Ottawa looks for just its second win in 13 all-time visits to Los Angeles when it faces a Kings team hoping to avoid...

Desert Scuffle

The Ottawa Senators closed out their Western Conference road trip with a 3-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes in a match up that was as exciting as the stadium name for the local team. Despite a fight in the second period, this game lacked intensity and emotion. It wasn’t the type of game expected for a returning player who was traded away after a signing controversy, with only...
