The Calgary Flames can certainly frustrate the Predators and they did so tonight. A simple tap-in goal from Derek Smith made it 1-0 Calgary late in the first period and that’s all it took.

Nashville drops this game 1-0 against Calgary and their 5th in their last 6 games. The Predators are in action again on Thursday night when they play at the Vancouver Canucks

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 3, 0%
Penalty Kill – 2 for 2, 100%

Best Play of the Game: N/A

Worst Play of the Game: Derek Smith found himself wide open to the right of Pekka Rinne for a simple tap-in for a 1-0 lead, which would be the deciding goal.

My Three Stars:

#1:  - Mikka Kiprusoff – 25 saves on 25 attempts. Perfection from Kipper tonight to give the Flames a big win

#2: – Pekka Rinne – 28 saves on 29 attempts. Near perfection from Rinne, but a short tap in late in the first was the difference

#3: – Derek Smith – 1g, 0a, +1 on the night. Game winning goal on his first ever career NHL goal

Nashville looked to make it 2-0 against a defensive-minded team in the Calgary Flames, and one of the league’s worst right now.

All three periods were essentially a chess match for the most part. Calgary got on board late in the first period with a first-career goal from Derek Smith on a tap-in to the left of Rinne with 18:50 gone in the period.

While the second period didn’t really see too much happen, the third period was a little bit more entertaining. Although no goals were scored, the tempo increased and there were a few late chances for the Predators to tie it, but to no avail.

Stay tuned to The Predatorial tomorrow morning for the gameday preview of the Flames game!

Stay frosty, friends.
