The Flames have yet to win this regular season, after losing 5-2 in St. Louis on Monday afternoon. While the rest of us were digesting our Thanksgiving turkey, the Flames were doing their best to notch their first two points this season. The Blues, who also lost their first game of the season, ended up [...]

via Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun, While even members of the Pittsburgh Penguins sitting up in the press box considered Flames defenceman Cory Sarich’s hit on Penguins pest Matt Cooke clean Saturday night during a 5-3 Calgary loss at the Saddledome, hockey operations will offer up tape for a closer look.
It’s tough to argue against the idea of making sure it was clean...
from Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald, “It’s like we’re still in exhibition mode,” the head coach said. “The reality of this hockey team — when we have success — is that we have two star players on this hockey team. That’s what we have. We’ve all got to play within what we are as players.”
The two stars, in Sutter’s mind, are Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff.
Presenting Tim Jackman, of the Calgary Flames, from last night's season-opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jackman didn't score any points in the Flames's 5-3 loss, but he did serve a two-minute minor for too many men on the ice. So what happened?
This was nowhere near as close as the score indicated. While the Pens did need an empty net goal from Jordan Staal to cement the victory, the Pens put on a clinic for about 45 of the 60 minutes of this hockey game. The rest of the time, they were simply better than average, instead of tremendous.
My biggest takeaway from this game was that the...

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The NHL has not been shy about lashing out against illegal shots to the head, but it appears two players involved in hard hits Saturday night have escaped suspensions. Penguins center Evgeni Malkin got an elbowing call for a first-period hit on Calgary's Lee Stempniak, but he did not have a hearing with the NHL and will not be suspended.
ST. LOUIS, MO -- As they head back over the Canadian border on Tuesday, the Calgary Flames have a lot on their minds.
They currently are 0-2-0 and that record sits squarely on their shoulders after what can on...
