Found January 17, 2012 on Igloo Dreams:
So what happened? The Pens went to the shoot out for the first time in seemingly forever (the last time was Saturday, November 5th in Los Angeles). Prior to that, there was a highly entertaining hockey game. The Pens and Canes traded chances and generally played end-to-end hockey with no whistles for long stretches. I wouldn't say it had the intensity of a playoff game, but it was certainly close. The Pens did their thing and out shot the Canes by a margin of 41-26. Both goalies were excellent, and both teams had numerous chances. This score could easily have been 4-3 instead of 2-1. A great job by the Pens to earn another two points and keep their streak going. Who scored? Malkin (22) The Good? Malkin, Kunitz and Neal combined for 16 shots and the only goal of the game for the Pens. Speaking of Geno's goal, it was a nice steal from Eric Staal (though Staal never had total possession of the puck) and a roof job on Cam Ward, w...

Malkin vs. Crosby; Who’s the Penguins leader?

Things went from bad to worse as the slumping Penguins fell down to the 9th spot in the East.  They simply couldn’t stop the bleeding.  They kept competetive but they just couldn’t find the net with any consistancy and the 6 game slide starting in December threatened to be an endless trend as the list of injuries continued to grow.  Sure, the Pens were fighting...

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Pittsburgh Penguins 1/17/12 Scoring Chances

The main thing I talked about in the preview was how Cam Ward is showing signs of his usual self and that the Canes should see more wins as a result even if they continue to be outshot night in and night out. Tonight's game seemed to fit that prediction well as the Canes were outshot 37-22 at even strength and outchanced 20-13, but were able to pick up a point in a 2-1 shootout...

Penguins center and captain Sidney Crosby left the team to see concussion specialist Ted Carrick in Atlanta. Top defenseman Kris Letang was medically cleared to play after a concussion and will return to the lineup soon. From general manager Ray Shero's perspective, those are equally welcome developments. Shero on Monday called Crosby's time with Carrick "a good thing."

Malkin leads way to victory

Evgeni Malkin has played some terrific hockey lately. Quite possibly the finest of his career. But maybe, just maybe, not his best of this season. That, defenseman Brooks Orpik suggested after the Penguins' 2-1 shootout victory against Carolina Tuesday night at Consol Energy Center, might still be coming.
