Danny Briere scored 1:47 into overtime to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Jakub Voracek, Matt Read and Brayden Schenn also scored for Philadelphia, which went 3-0-1 on a four-game homestand. Joe Corvo scored the tying goal in the third period, and Jiri Tlusty and Jeff Skinner also had goals for the Hurricanes, who had won two in a row. Briere skated down the left side, made a move around the circle and fired a shot that hit the far post and trickled past goalie Cam Ward. The game went to overtime because Ward stoned Read on a point-blank shot at the end of regulation. The Flyers have gone 24-4-4 against the Hurricanes since Nov. 28, 2003. Philadelphia is 5-6-1 at the quarter point of the lockout-shortened 48-game schedule. Carolina fell to 5-4-1. --- Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RobMaaddi

Brian Boucher during his time in Philadelphia in ’10. Struggling Flyers' Forwards Begin to Step Up

In the early stages of this lockout-shortened season, the Philadelphia Flyers' offensive woes have been a main cause of a 5-6-1 start. In just three of the twelve games played, the Flyers scorers have found the back of the net more than three times.  With Scott Hartnell, who scored a team-leading 37 goals last season, sidelined by a foot injury, Claude Giroux struggling to find...

Game 10 Scoring Chances: Hurricanes at Flyers

Let's face it, the Hurricanes do not have a history of playing well against the Flyers, and this goes back to when the franchise was relocated to Raleigh. Since 1997, the Hurricanes have won only 30 of their 115 games against the Flyers and have earned points in a little over 36% of those games. Given that bit of information, some might be thankful that the Canes were able to...

Photo by Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images By Charlie O’Connor (@THG_Charlie) During the month of January, Brayden Schenn lost his spot on the Philadelphia Flyers’ top line, served a one-game suspension, and failed to score a single goal. February has proven far more positive for the young forward. Rebounding from his disappointing start, Schenn has quickly become Philadelphia’s...

Following a slow start, the Philadelphia Flyers got a much-needed boost from a successful homestand. Their next challenge is keeping that momentum going on their longest road trip of the season. In the opener of a six-game trek, the Flyers will try to add to the streaking Toronto Maple Leafs' home woes and continue their dominance in the series Monday night. Philadelphia (5...

Preview: Flyers vs Hurricanes 2-9-13

Game 9: Hurricanes at Senators

Even though the Hurricanes won last night's game in overtime, their performance reminded me a lot of how they played last year. Not only were they heavily outshot, but the Senators had control for most of the game and the Hurricanes were forced to play in their own end more often than they would have liked. They were able to stay in the game and force overtime thanks to great...
