The Philadelphia Flyers have made a trade at the deadline.
The Flyers sent G Michael Leighton and a third-round draft pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for G Steve Mason.
The Blue Jackets originally acquired former-Flyers backup Sergei Bobrovsky this off-season.
Steve Mason was thought to be the next great goalie in the NHL, especially after his tremendous rookie season where he went 33-20-7 with a 2.29 GAA for the Blue Jackets. Columbus made the playoffs that season.
But ever since 2008-2009, Mason has struggled mightily. In the past three seasons, Mason has seen his GAA rise to over 3.00 in each.
This season, Mason has 3-6-1 record in 13 games played. Mason also has a .899 save percentage and a 2.95 GAA.
The Flyers brought in a backup goalie who definitely needed a fresh start. Mason has shown glimpses of greatness, but his confidence has shaken that chance. Could a fresh start be the answer?

In an effort to close up the gap between they and the 8th place Islanders, the Flyers made two trades. The first trade sent LW Harry Zolnierczyk to the Anaheim Ducks for minor league LW Jay Rosehill. No major improvements on either side, as it essentially swaps two depth guys. The second trade comes with a bit more aftershock, as Michael Leighton and a 2015 third round pick were...

Well just hours after the aquisition of Steve Mason as the new backup for Brygalov the high flying Canadiens took on the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center. High flying is an understatement as the game started with end to end action. The shots were abounding the first 10minutes, 7-6, and with about 6:30 left in the first, the Montreal Canadiens struck first. Alexei Emelin wrists a...
(photo by Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images) It has been quite blatant that the Philadelphia Flyers’ 8th overall pick in 2011 is suffering from what many call a “sophomore slump”. Sean Couturier netted 13 goals and had 14 assists for a combined total of 27 points in his rookie season. His defensive style of play [...]

Loser: Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers traded Sergei Bobrovsky to Columbus last season – and now Bobrovsky is playing so well, he is a candidate for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender. One theory: Bobrovsky is playing without the kind of pressure there is in Philadelphia. So now the Flyers have acquired a goaltender from...
