The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Swedish defenseman Nicklas Grossman from the Dallas Stars on Thursday for a 2012 second-round pick and a 2013 third-round pick.
The 27-year-old Grossman, 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, has five assists in 52 games this season. He has three goals and 41 points in 333 career NHL games, all with the Stars.
''He is experienced. He is a bigger body and he is a good solid defensive defenseman,'' Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. ''He can kill penalties for us and play regular shifts. He can chew up minutes.''
Grossman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
''Nick being the player that he is, he's been a sought-after guy for a lot of teams,'' Dallas general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. ''It just kind of came together with Philadelphia over the last few days. We wish him luck. It's a good fit for him.''
The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 27.
''This isn't an indication we're going to be sellers,'' Nieuwendyk said. ''This is an indication we're going to be active. ... We're trying to build something here that's not only a good product today but, more importantly, we want to contend for Cups like the Detroit's, like the San Jose's, not just bordering on the seven-through-12 area. We want to be a consistent team.''

Just How Good Can The Flyers Be?
via Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull, The Flyers, who have lost five of their last six games, will try to get back on track Thursday night against offensive-challenged Buffalo at the Wells Fargo Center.

Analyst on game-winning, OT goal in Stars-Flames game: ‘Six shades of sexy’ (video)
Oh man, this all kinds of goodness. Six shades even. But that’s just me riffing on Daryl “Razor” Reaugh’s brilliant, sexified analysis of Mike Ribeiro’s game-winning tally in overtime which lifted the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames. The former NHL goaltender and current in-game analyst for the Dallas Stars dropped [...]
Grossman shipped off for draft picks
The Stars made their first big move of the trade season this year by sending off enormously underperforming defenseman Nick Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers forwhat's being reported as a 2nd round pick in 2012 and a 3rd round pick in 2013 (which originally belonged to the Minnesota Wild).
The 2nd rounder (which originally belonged to the LA Kings) could prove to be a very...
GROSSMAN THE FIRST TO GO
The Stars traded 27 year old Nicklas Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday for a 2nd round pick in 2012 and a 3rd rounder in 2013. Grossman has been a steady defender for the Stars over his career so far, but he’s an impending UFA at the end of the season and it looks like GM Joe just wan’t interested in giving him any type of raise.
It’s not like Grossman couldn’t...
