Flyers center Claude Giroux will not make the trip to Washington for Tuesday night's game as he recovers from a head injury. Giroux, who leads the NHL with 39 points, was hit in the back of the head by teammate Wayne Simmonds on Saturday night against Tampa Bay. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement Monday.

The Philadelphia Flyers confirmed Tuesday that star player Claude Giroux sustained a concussion after an inadvertent knee to the head from teammate Wayne Simmonds and will be out indefinitely.
from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull, Holmgren said Giroux was examined by a doctor and was feeling better. He said Giroux was held out of the third period for precautionary measures.
When asked if Giroux was experiencing any headaches, Holmgren replied, “not really headaches. This was really just precautionary at this stage.”

With captain Chris Pronger and forward Brayden Schenn already out with head injuries, the last thing the Philadelphia Flyers needed was another headache. The very last thing the team needed with their top defenseman on the shelf indefinitely was to have the NHL’s leading scorer, Claude Giroux join him on the sidelines.
With the news this morning that Claude Giroux would be out of the line-up indefinitely with a concussion, there was an opportunity for the team to use that as an excuse for a poor effort tonight.
Instead, the Flyers put forward one of their best games of the season, dominating the Washington Capitals 5-1.
