Jessica Redfield was a 24-year old sports blogger and aspiring broadcaster when she was killed in the Aurora, CO movie theatre massacre.  From all accounts, her hard work, knowledge of sports and glowing personality were going to take her places.  Hockey was her favorite sport and she wrote several different hockey pieces and traveled the country watching it.

Graciously, the Philadelphia Flyers have created an internship to let other girls like Jessica accomplish their goal of working in professional sports.  The title of the position is the “Jessica Redfield Journalism/PR Internship”. The full listing can be seen here and the position is open to “female college students seeking a career in sports journalism.”  The Flyers officially stated that the purpose of the internship is to:

“To give a female college student, with similar career aspirations such as Jessica’s, the opportunity to gain career experience in the hockey world,” explains Ike Richman, Comcast-Spectacor spokesman.  The young woman selected will work in the team’s public relations office, on team broadcasts, social media and more.”

Hopefully candidates are able to take this position by storm just like Jessica seemingly had her ducks in a row.  Good for the Flyers for making something good out of the senseless disgusting tragedy.

Here is Jessica’s brother Jordan discussing Jessica’s legacy:

I guess that one show is partly right. It is sometimes sunny in Philadelphia.
