Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren held out hope that captain Chris Pronger could return to the ice this season.
Holmgren, however, admitted late Thursday that the hope has pretty much evaporated as the veteran defenseman has struggled in his recovery from major post-concussion syndrome.
"I'm a glass is half-full kind of guy," Holmgren said of the likelihood of Pronger's return this season. "I don't know. We'll see. I would say the odds of that happening aren't very good."
The team initially declared that the 37-year-old Pronger would miss the remainder of the regular season and playoffs on Dec. 15. He last played on Nov. 19 and had been complaining of constant headaches and a feeling of sluggishness.
Pronger has collected a goal and 11 assists in 13 games this season. For his career, Pronger has 157 goals and 541 assists in 1,167 games.
