Claude Giroux was among 5 Philadelphia Flyers who needed surgery to repair various ailments. Giroux had both of his wrists operated on. The Philadelphia Flyers will open camp this weekend, months after they were supposed to before a lockout almost caused a lost season. Camp will be short, probably beginning Sunday and ending Thursday or Friday. There will be no preseason games on the schedule. The Flyers will open the season on Saturday, January 19th at the Wells Fargo Center at 3 PM. According to John Clark of NBC10, the Flyers will open their shortened 48 game schedule against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yes, the same Penguins that the Flyers had a war with in last year’s regular season and first round playoff series. The indelible moment? Claude Giroux rolling over Sidney “the Sniveling B#%^*” Crosby on the opening shift and then scoring 26 seconds later. Speaking of Claude Giroux and his greatness, rumor has it that at some point this week, G will be sporting an extra letter on his jersey. It will not be an “A.” Instead, the Captain’s “C.” Giroux has more than proved himself worthy, and with Chris Pronger’s future still very much up in the air, the time has come to name a new Captain. Danny Briere, another veteran leader will see a doctor when the lockout is officially lifted (hopefully Saturday). Briere injured his wrist while playing in Germany during the lockout. Briere said he hoped to ready for the start of the season but didn’t expect to miss more than two games if he missed any. Hockey’s back! Life is good again!
