What else do you come to The Detroit Sports Site for, if not celebrity news? Passing along what I believe to be our first tidbit about a Detroit athlete (current or former) guest-starring on a sitcom … EW.com reports that Luc Robitaille, a member of the Detroit Red Wings’ legendary 2001-02 Stanley Cup-winning team, will make an appearance on the Feb. 4 episode of CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother”: After the last new episode of How I Met Your Mother, executive producer Craig Thomas promised EW a star-studded fourth and final installment of the Robin Sparkles saga, and today, CBS announced the huge list of expected guest stars. Scheduled to appear in the Feb. 4 episode are: Alan Thicke, James Van Der Beek, Paul Shaffer, Jason Priestley, Alex Trebek, K. D. Lang, former Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page, Rush frontman Geddy Lee, and former Canadian hockey player Luc Robitaille. To steal a line from another sitcom hero, Ron Swanson: Give me all the Canadians you have. For those of you not all that well-versed in the “How I Met Your Mother” storylines, Robin Sparkles is the Canadian teen pop star alter ego of co-star Cobie Smulders character. We can only hope that Robitaille will somehow be featured in a backup dancer role when he makes his cameo, but he might need a little introduction at some point — of those expected guest stars listed by EW.com, Robitaille might be the least-recognizable for non-hockey fans of the show. Anyway, Robitaille’s sitcom debut (we think) is something to look forward to — the episode airs on the Monday after the Super Bowl.
