Former star defenseman Wade Redden has retired after years in the NHL. Redden played with Ottawa, the New York Rangers, St. Louis and Boston. He finished with 457 points - 109 goals and 348 assists. The 36-year-old player announced his decision Thursday through the NHL Players' Association. Redden helped key Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final in 2007. After playing his first 11 seasons with the Senators, he signed a six-year deal with the Rangers in 2008. In the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, he signed a one-year deal with St. Louis. He was traded to Boston and played five playoff games for the Bruins as they advanced to the Stanley Cup final. Redden was on the 2004 Canadian team that won the last World Cup of Hockey. He also played at the 2006 Turin Olympics and won a silver medal at the 2005 world hockey championship.
