After waiting just over two months, unrestricted free agent Fredrik Modin is no longer that. Modin signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday, according to many published reports. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. “I know Fredrik well from our time in Tampa and he is an experienced and talented veteran who is tremendously respected in the locker room,” said Atlanta General Manager Rick Dudle. “He’s won a Stanley Cup, along with an Olympic Gold Medal, and possesses that winning mentality we are looking for.” The Thrashers will be Modin’s fifth National Hockey League team. He began his career by playing three season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team who selected him 64th overall in the 1994 entry draft, scoring 38 goals and 38 assists in 217 games.
