There was a reason I was waiting for this game all week and this game did not disappoint. It had some highs. Some lows. A Stamkos hat trick. A Carcillo breakaway goal. Some passes from St. Louis to Lecavalier a la 2004...and in the end the game didn't go to a shootout. What a game. The first period was a wash. Chicago had the edge in shots with 15 to the Lightning's 8, but it ended scoreless. The second period is where everything happened.Stamkos starts off the scoring 15 seconds into the game. Patrick Sharp answers back quickly just under a minute later on the PP. Yeah not really sure what Adam Hall was doing while Sharp scored there, but whatever, tie game.Brett Connolly gets his second of the season after first stopping the puck with his skate while literally inside of the net, and then puts it past the goal line. Lightning up 2-1.And here is your WTF minute of the night. Marian Hossa is left unattended and wrists a shot past Roloson. The Lightning hand out turnovers to the ...

Rookie Connolly learning from Lightning's best

TAMPA, Fla. -- Brett Connolly couldn't have dreamed of a better opening act. At only 19, still a junior by eligibility, the Tampa Bay Lightning's 2010 first-round pick is skating on the vaunted second line with franchise icons Marty St. Louis and Vinny Lecavalier. Who could blame him for pinching himself? It's only a month into his rookie NHL season and he's skating...

Corey Crawford is undisputed champion of the Chicago Blackhawks

If you remember back to HBO’s 24/7 last year, one of the great features of the locker room culture was passing the baton of the star after the team’s win. The Pittsburgh Penguins had a shovel and the Washington Capitals had a helmet. The Chicago Blackhawks did one better. Corey Crawford’s performance Thursday of 41 saves and barring the pipes shut through the...

Hannu Toivonen Allows Goal From Opposite Blue Line (video)

Normally when you see a hockey video on the Internet, it is for some spectacular save.  In the case of Hannu Toivonen, it’s the complete opposite. The Finnish goalie made the brutal mistake of allowing a goal from the opposite blue line.  Rogle defensemen Jesper Jensen let a shot fly from his own blue line and Toivonen, the goalie for Malmo was unable to stop it. Toivonen...

Blackhawks Head to Overtime (Again), This Time Falling to Bolts

Blackhawks Will Be the Thunder

The Tampa Bay Lightning's stadium has just about the coolest feature in sports. The team shoot off two Tesla coils that produce actual lightning bolts after Lightning goals. This could, of course, end in disaster and maybe a seizure or two, but it's pretty heavy metal and I love it. They Blackhawks will need to get excited about the Lightning, too because the team comes with...

Lightning-Panthers Preview

The Tampa Bay Lightning aren't off to the start they envisioned after last season's success, in large part due to their struggles on the road. A short trip across the state hasn't yielded great results in recent years, either. The Florida Panthers look for their third win over Tampa Bay in the young season when they host the Lightning on Sunday. Tampa Bay (6-5-2) has...
