Are we still in this?

We just passed Toronto and Buffalo with this win and are now 4 points out from the Jets who are in the 8th place....

Holy **** we're still in a playoff race.

Oh and the Leafs just fired their coach. And hired Randy Carlyle. Jesus. What a world we live in.

So the Lightning played well tonight. Actually they outplayed the **** out of the Rangers tonight.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Recap after the jump...
***

Let's bullet-point recap because it's Friday and I'm lazy
  • They outshot the Rangers 31 to 19
  • Stamkos scored a sick goal
  • He now has 45 goals to his name
  • It was a sell-out tonight at the Forum
  • Purcell scored his 18th of the season. He's really stepped up his game over the last 2 weeks when all of the roster shuffling started to occur which is really encouraging to see
  • Purcell is on an 8 game point streak. Of course he's had help from Stamkos and St. Louis and also because Lecavalier is out with injury
  • Two games so far, but I'm encouraged by Brian Lee. He had two assist tonight
  • Keith Aulie...has not been encouraging. According to Erlendsson's twitter, he took 2 shifts in the 3rd and finished with 10:39 in ice time
  • Lundqvist had a huge save on Brett Connolly in the 3rd
  • Connolly has looked better tonight than he's looked in a long time
  • Doesn't show up on the scoresheet often, but Nate Thompson, what a player
  • After getting benched in the game against Carolina, of course it was Brandon Dubinsky to tie up the game
  • Nice pass from Purcell but Ryan Malone was such a beast in the OT ending the game with his wrister

Want to read what the other guys are saying? Here is the New York Rangers Blog's recap, spoiler: he wasn't impressed.

And just to make today better, the Caps lost 5-0 to New Jersey. Hilarious.

Here's Malone's OT winner:

Three In a Row for the Blueshirts

With starting netminder Henrik Lundqvist given the night off, and team captain Ryan Callahan, out day-to-day with a bruised foot, back-up goaltender Martin Biron needed to give the New York Rangers a strong start against the Carolina Hurricanes, especially considering the way he had played in his last few starts. Rangers/Bolts recap

The Rangers lost a tough one tonight, 4-3 to the Lightning in overtime.  The Blueshirts looked tired and we generally outplayed by Tampa for the better part of the game.  Henrik Lundqvist played very well and Brandon Dubinsky made a return to the score sheet.  No one likes to lose but there were definitely some positive takeaways from this one.  To the bullets… 1st Period...
