Pittsburgh Penguins (11-5-3) @ Florida Panthers (9-6-3)

TV: ROOT

BankAtlantic Center, Sunrise, FL

Forget everything you know about the Florida Panthers. It probably shouldn't take very long to do that.

This is a completely different team. Literally. They have a new coach, about a million new players and they've finally gone back to wearing red. Also, they're not a sad joke anymore. The Panthers currently sit seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Season Series: 1-0-0 Penguins.

Last meeting that counted: October 11, 2011. Penguins won 4-2.

What we said in our recap:

This game had all the markings of a trap game. When teams come home from a west-coast trip, they usually have a tough go of it. The Pens didn't really have that problem. The Pens broke the Panthers' will to live sometime after the James Neal goal.

Know Your Enemy: Litter Box Cats.

What they're saying:

As the Panthers faithful know, the Penguins are one of a number of teams who always attract a large number of away fans. The Cats have had a losing record against the Pens for the last few seasons, but do occasionally bust out a win. Today is the first game of a 4 game home stand following a 1-1 road trip. The Cats have not been particularly good at home thus far in the season and are hoping to make a strong statement. After today, the Panthers host the Devils and Rangers before playing a post-Thanksgiving home and home series against the Lightning. The Penguins will once again be without star center Sidney Crosby, but they're tearing up the standings without him. The Cats are the victims of a rash of injuries and will be missing 4 starting forwards and a backup goaltender today.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

The Pens have a five-game winning streak against the Panthers.

Insert required Sidney Crosby comment here.

Florida Panthers Notes:

The Panthers are phasing out the Panther head logo above and the blue jerseys they recently introduced.

The Panthers have called up goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the AHL.
